Symetrix 6200 digital pre

Got this from the Chase Cuts website...

Nice voice processor for the prod room (or air studio)

Recently, well-know TV/Radio VO dude Brian Lee (Monster Truck Jam, KUPD, etc) left his Symetrix 6200 at my house by mistake, so I had a chance to play with it for a week or so. Seems like a pretty ideal box for many uses---it's got 2 discrete channels, so 2 mics can be used simultaneously yet processed independently. Plus the fact that it's digital does away with all the knobs that break and get bumped and mangled by jocks and producers. It sports a very squashy, yet pleasantly radio-ish compressor, decent EQ and the best expander/gate I think I've ever used---a must for those noisy prod rooms/air studios. And for those VO dudes on the go (like Brian), it's only 1 rackspace so you can easily throw it in a suitcase and run it digitally into your laptop. Sweet.

Though bit pricey, but it's got some killer features that make it an easier sell to radio engineering departments (like 2 processor chains for the price of one), so if there are any studio upgrades in the pipeline (yeah right), make sure your friendly engineer knows about this Symetrix: http://www.airtoolsaudio.com/

Yeah Chucker..probably the best preamp I have tried..IMHO it beat the John Hardy..Beat the API too..just an incredibly clean and well made preamp..but with lots of nice "beef" to it..Avedis makes GREAT stuff...and QUIET. That's the only issue I have with Avalon stuff..they seem to have a pretty good amount of self noise..Unless I am using them improperly.

My Avalon M5 is quiet...at least as far as I can tell. I'm a novice compared to your gear skillset. Hence why I ask so many questions :D

I use the Avalon M5/dbx 286 combo moreso than the ISA220/528 combo I have. Much cleaner. I use the comp on the dbx, then tweak with plugs.

I am thinking of upgrading to an Avalon 737
