As I gorge on a various korni-copee-ya of Easter candy, let me crack open the rotten egg of...Syndi-keep-tion. I do believe that Tesh, The JB&B Big Show, and Dellilah have made their income in an honest business manner. They are worthy of respect.
However, the old school in me crys foul, as they eliminate both local content, and local jobs. Many talented Broadcasters are either unemployed(John Crenshaw) or have had to change careers(Gary Jackson). Without question, the smartest move that WMYI ever did was to rid themselves of THE QUEEN OF SAP,..."Delliliah"! WROQ is the very first JB&B affiliate; a very protected affiliate. Upon renewal, it may not be cheap, but they sweeten the deal, and get the extention. Tesh, is rumored to be way cheaper than a Live(warm body)Announcer or a VT. So, I ask: You have just been hired as the GM. The boss is flying in, and he wants to talk about your Syndi-ed dayparts. What say ye????
*PS: Don't eat the blue peeps! I believe them to be chickens from Avatar!
 
tom joyner is syndicated and is always number one. john boy and billy are usually in the top five. two of the top five morning shows are syndicated. I don't think syndication makes a difference.
 
If I'm ROQ, I'd pickup ''Little Steven's Underground Garage'' for Sunday mornings. I used to love it on The Buzzard back in the day. That ''Acoustic Storm'' show is a joke. I also wish they would bring bacl Alan Handelman too.
 
Syndication to me turns off a local audience big time , people like it where they can call the station and connect to the dj.

Apparently, no one is getting the drift of The Big Bad Wolf...I do not prefer Syndication. It squelches local (M-F full time) jobs, and the local content that they know how to spout. Tesh is only on because his service is cheap. I respect JB&B, but they have been on too long. Since ROQ is the first affil, this market has to hear the same bits over and over, everytime they add another affil. When they went multi-format, they water-ed themselves down, to fit. Now, they aren't Live all five days of the week. JB is rich, and he will eventually quit. None of their affils has a back-up plan, when that comes down. They were well worth the money the first three years, but now it's just re-hash.
They don't do well in every market. ...and let me clear up this: Steve Harvey is brilliant, but no one can afford him here. Tom Joyner just benefits from Arb's weighted diary Horse Manure. Anyone that subscribes to JAMZ being #1 for 20-some years ain't got nothing between their ears, but Goose Feathers & Goat Hair. How damn stupid can anyone get?
 
For the record, I too would welcome a large dose of Steve Harvey!
As for the Cox sale, there are those in this market that can answer their future much better than I can. What I got off the street was the following: It was sold to a company in Birmingham. The pockets there were formerly of Cox, in Atlanta. With that said, I also heard that very little would change;...except of coarse, "Ownership".
 
That rumor's been floating around since Chuck signed on.

Would have made a great April fools joke. Maybe next year.

Trust me, I understand the point plain and clear . However, it's still all about having a product that the listener will come back to time and again. There is a place for some syndicated shows as long as it enhances the product. Believe me, I'm all for local folks gettin' airtime and I love the thought of a community atmosphere to the whole thing. It's like I can't stand music that's pre-fabbed with computers, drum machines and synthesizers. (see cRap). But when done right, a little sythesizer isn't all that bad. (see Pink Floyd).

They should. Hot has seen its better days, Rhythmic is a dying format. Chuck's ratings could double which would be better than what Hot gets most of the time, and with a more affluent demographic.

Of course, my personal preference would be for X98.5 to swap with Hot. I know there's doubts as to whether alternative could fly in the Upstate and the ratings (at least in trends) haven't been all that great so far on a translator. But I still think there's enough people who absolutely hate The Planet and still see posts on FB of people just finding X98.5. I think if it was on a bigger stick, maybe more people would find it and it could take on The Planet.

Would go well and serve everyone alot more efficiently :p

There's no way the market would go without an Urban on a full-powered signal. That's like 20% of the market.

Unfortunately, I would be shocked if the X format ever went to a full-powered signal. I would love for it to happen, but doubt it will.

I know. It was just dreaming a little. As long as it sticks around (and I don't need to move to Anderson or something), I'll be content where it is. I still would love to see how much damage it could do to The Planet on a full-powered signal, though.

Speaking of all this, I wonder when the Cox deal with the new Summit Media group will close? Don't think they'll be much of a change under the new (formerly Cox management) group, but anxious to see if there will be.
