WNCX 98.5 FM had an excellent edition of Little Steven's Sunday night show. It focused on Ringo Starr in celebration of his 70th birthday. He cleverly tied it into Independence day by calling it "Ringo Starr's and Stripes Forever". This was particularly good for our area as Ringo and His All-Star Band will be in concert on Tuesday evening July 20th at Nautica. I got tickets on the first day they were available. This radio show was impressive in that they not only aired his tried-and-true hits, but also delved into excellent material from his entire career, which included playing stuff from his current CD "Y Not", along with songs from 2005's "Choose Love" and he even played "Weight of The World", the absolute excellent Beatlesque track from his consistently good 1992 release "Time Takes Time". I like how the host deliberately mentioned all songs and artists at the end of each set. He also often mentioned song composers and producers. Good job syndicated guys!

The Underground Garage is far and away the best channel on Sirius/XM, it's my number one preset. Where else on radio can you hear the Hives followed by Buddy Holly followed by the Sex Pistols? I didn't know the syndicated version was on WNCX, I'll be sure to listen when I return to KSU this fall.

It's easily the best program on WNCX, period. For a station that's eternally stuck in 1992, that's a complement.

Thanks for listening, OMW. Most likely it was a promo for "1900 Yesterday", the antique audio show that I produce. Cylinder and disc records made between 1900 and 1930 are featured (they are one of the things I collect). The concept of the program is ... as we move through the early part of the 21st century, it's a good time to say goodbye to the 20th century, by listening to its early recorded sound. This will likely be the last year for the series, as I've been doing it since Y2K. I'm giving away some of the early cylinder a disc records during the course of the year and have been very gratified at the response. The July 4th show featured Sousa Band marches done by Sousa's Band. I gave away one of the records after the show, and the lines lit up with people attempting to win it. Given that this series is generally of interest to a select audience, I was pleased at the result. On 7/11, 1920s Pop/Jazz/and Country, including the absolute hottest Dance Band record I've ever played will be featured. Archives are at www.wbwc.com/1900.
