Syndicated Radio Shows in the market

It's been awhile since I started a thread on here....lol.  But I was always wondering about a couple syndicated shows, that aren't carried up here in the Seattle market.

Back in the late 90s and shortly after, I was able to tune into KISM from Bellingham, in Bremerton every weekend, to listen to the Dr. Demento show.  Got alot of laughs from the songs he played, even the ones he plays today (having to listen online now), and learned that 'Weird Al' Yankovic got his start on his show as well.  I noticed that KISM doesn't carry his show anymore, and was wondering why?

The other syndicated show I was wondering about, was the Art Laboe Connection.  I remember long ago there we're rumors going around that 95.7 was going to carry his show in the Seattle area when they we're "The Beat", until Clear Channel took over Ackerley and the frequency went back to KJR-FM, hence those plans went abandoned.  I get to hear his show online online today from Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM) San Diego's stream, and also on the station itself whenever I take a trip down to visit family in San Diego.  Funny with how young I am, that I know about his show and familiar with the music he plays on there, but there's alot of younger people in California that know is show and make dedications and stuff on his show, so he's sill real well known down in Southern California.  It's a classic example of how older music can still appeal to people my age, in my generation and also people younger than me, even with just a 4-hour block of time on the airwaves.  I wonder if there will ever be plans to bring his show to the airwaves in Seattle sometime in the near or far future.  I think KUBE or KBKS can do very well with his show, with just carrying the weekend editions of the show.  Hell, maybe the new 104.5, with whatever format they become, can carry the show as well.  The most northern affiliate they have for the show right now is in Reno, NV.

It seems Dr. Demento currently has a very modest 'affiliates' list of 9 stations, a couple of them in California, and one in Corvalis Oregon. His show would probably blend best with a public radio (NPR) format .. and that may be why he's not on more outlets. And then again, maybe the concept is just getting a little long in the tooth.

Stephen, I don't know why nobody else came to play in your sandbox. Your questions and comments didn't seem at all ridiculous to me, but perhaps weren't framed from the 'insiders' perspective that seems to be valued here.

I'm sure there are plenty of Radio-Info regulars closer to your demographic than I am (geezerville) who could have plenty of response for you .. if they would just take the trouble.

I miss the good Doctor too....

I always thought KMTT or even KZOK (Dr. Demento's original affiliate outside the first one, KMET out of California) would come to their senses and know a TRUE gem to play on those otherwise lame Sunday night hours. But alas not.

Shame...we need Dr. Demento now more than ever - and with radio being where it is today, it can't hurt.

Trouble with KISM is sometime the CDs it was delivered on skipped and mistracked hopelessly over the air and even I too, as much a fan of Dr. Demento as I am would draw a line somewhere.

But Dr. Demento did have have a brief revival in Puget Sound over the now defunct KCFL-LP 104.5 a few years ago. If the good Doctor would only make his program available to anyone over the internet for free, we'd all be happy. But I don't see that happening yet and radio can use him again.

Consider this a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY KMTT or KZOK....or whoever else....

Otherwise, I say just about 1/2 of overall Seattle radio is voicetracked/syndicated elsewhere....
