Birmingham used to be notorious for this. WBRC ran "Marshal Dillon" (the
half-hour "Gunsmoke" episodes) at various times, and I've known it to
delay "Love, American Style" in order to show "Big Valley" on Friday nights;
it also showed the hour-long "Gunsmoke"s on Tuesdays and delayed "Three's
Company" and (I guess) "Soap."
WBMG (WIAT) delayed the first half-season of "All In The Family" (when it
aired Tuesdays at 8:30 CT) in favor of "Felony Squad." One positive note:
Ch. 42 aired "AITF" on Saturdays at 6 (CT), so when CBS moved the show
to Saturdays at 7 (CT) in the fall of '71 we were already in the habit of
watching it on Saturdays. "Rat Patrol" was another show that was rerun at
various times on Ch. 42 in primetime.
When I first moved to Greenville, SC in 1968 WSPA was running "Time Tunnel"
Wednesdays at 7:30 and delaying "Lost In Space" to Saturdays at 5. Ironically,
ABC very nearly renewed "Time Tunnel" for the 1967-68 season and from what I
understand was going to put it Wednesdays at 7:30; however, Irwin Allen didn't
want to compete against himself.
