Syndicated shows produced at local stations

The line between WNBC and NBC is a bit fluid since they share the same building, some of the same crews and equipment, and the copyrights at the end of the locally produced programs are identical to those produced by the network.

What about the recently-ended George Michael Sports Machine?? That was produced out of WRC-TV in Washington, DC and lasted more than 20 years in syndication.

...there were also several polka music shows that were syndicated throughout the Upper Midwest in the '60s and '70s. One that I know of featured Dr. John Check & The Wisconsin Dutchmen, who taped at WLUK/11 Green Bay; Dick Rodgers, who usually taped at a ballroom using WLUK's remote facilities; Alvin Styczynski and Cousin Fuzzy & His Cousins, who both taped at WBAY-TV/2 Green Bay; and Frankie Yankovic, who had shows originating at various times from WEWS-TV/5 Cleveland, WGN-TV/9 Chicago and WKBW-TV/7 Buffalo, all syndicated...

Currently "The View From The Bay" a daily talk show from KGO San Francisco is also shown on KCBS, Los Angeles and the ABC O/O in Chicago (WLS?). Maybe even on other ABC O/O stations.

View from the Bay airs on WPVI Philadelphia's digital news/public affairs channel in primetime.

Another regionally syndicated show out of Philly in the '80s was Dancin' on Air, from WPHL (not necessarily at WPHL, but they originated it--the final home was a studio in Primos, PA). I don't recall the full list of markets that carried it at various points, but believe Boston was one during part of the run.

And though not technically syndicated, Dancin' On Air had a cable spin-off, Dancin' USA, weekends on USA. That morphed into the daily Dance Party USA...which outlived the original local show.

WIPB-TV Muncie, IN produced the highly successful "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross, which is still seen of PBS stations across the country.

Gene Wood's "Anything You Can Do" (not "Whatever
You Can Do") was produced at CJOH-TV Ottawa.

The 2007 version of "Camouflage" which airs weekends
on GSN was/is produced at KCET Los Angeles.

Did anyone mention "Night Train," a '60s-era r&b show
produced at WLAC (now WTVF) Nashville?

And there was one short-lived game show back around
1967 called "Matches 'n' Mates," hosted by Art James.
Some episodes were produced at WJW Cleveland; others
at WAGA Atlanta. I wonder if this show aired on any
stations not owned by Storer?

Sounds like one of those lovely local infomercial-talk show hybrids popping up around the country. KHOU-Houston has "Great Day Houston" while WFLA-Tampa has "Daytime" (which is syndicated around the southeast and not just to Media General station) and WCAU-Philly has "10!."

You mean "The 3,628,800 Club".

Sorry -- can't resist. I wonder how many math geeks gave their stations a ribbing with a title like that.

CFPL-10 in London produces Agvision, which is seen on a number of stations elsewhere in Canada including some Global stations out west. I believe CKPR/CHFD in Thunder Bay produces a fishing show that is seen on a few stations including MCTV. Previously there have been syndicated shows coming from various Canadian stations including Harrigan (CKWS-11 Kingston), Blue Rainbow (CHSJ-4 Saint John), Ski Base (CKVR-3 Barrie), and the 50+ show You're Getting Better (also CKVR). Some Maple Leafs hockey games produced by CHCH-11 in Hamilton back in the late 80s were syndicated to other Ontario stations such as CFPL and CBET.

After CHSJ got bought by CBC, MITV took over production for Blue Rainbow. I also remember another show called Up & Coming, which featured music acts...IIRC ATV Maritimes and CITV Edmonton were the two main co-producing stations, but a number of other stations (mainly in Ontario, I believe) also contributed. In my neck o' the woods, I remember ATV showing both Harrigan and Ski Base, not sure if You're Getting Better was- I'm thinking ASN ran it if it aired here...

I believe Gayle King had a short-lived syndicated show of sorts. It was taped in or next to WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford at Constitution Plaza. Gayle, of course, is famous nationally because of Oprah. We remembered her as an anchor and a features reporter with channel 3 from 1981 to 1999.

NOTE: WFSB-TV/DT now has their studios near I-91 in Rocky Hill, CT, to the south of Hartford.

I have a few questions on Entertainment News shows like Extra,Access Hollywood,Inside Edition,TMZ,The Entertainers and a few others ,and but last Entertainment Tonight/ET Insider. Is ET still taped at the same studios since 1981.or at CBS?Is Extra and Access Hollywood taped at NBC studios?

Al Alberts who was in the Four Aces pop group way back when did on Philly's WPVI-TV 6 a program called "Al Alberts Showcase" back in the 70s. I am not 100% sure if that show was sydicated to a few markets or just aired on WPVI.

However Alberts back in the early to mid 70s, he DID do a show that was taped on location at Pennsylvania's famous Hersheypark Amusement Park and that was indeed syndicated to a variety of stations as far north as New York State and as far south as Virginia and of course throughout Pennsylvania ( though not in Pittsburgh..I would imagine Kennywood Park was the reason for that since they and Hershey were/are bitter rivals ). The Hersheypark Al Alberts show, I have no idea who syndicated this whether it was WPVI or perhaps one of the Harrisburg stations ( WHP or WHTM ) or perhaps it was Hersheypark themselves who syndicated the show as a promotional tool for both Alberts and/or the amusement park.

According to Wikipedia, Access Hollywood is taped in Studio 1 at NBC Studios in Burbank. Studio 1 is the former home of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show (but not Jay Leno's Tonight Show).

Also according to Wikipedia, Extra is produced at Victory Studios in Glendale, California. TMZ tapes in a studio that was previously used by a show called Celebrity Justice (a spinoff of Extra). TMZ's studio is in the same building as Extra's studios.

According to Inside Edition's website, that show is produced daily at the CBS Broadcast Center in NYC.

ET is distributed through (and, I would imagine, tapes at) CBS Television Studios. ET debuted in 1981 (along with MTV). Mary Hart and her legs have been with the show since 1982. Film Critic Leonard Maltin has been with the show since 1982. Couldn't find any info (not that I looked very hard) on previous taping locations but I would imagine a show that has been on as long as ET has probably changed studios once or twice.

The Insider is an ET spinoff and had been taped in ET's studio. This season, it was moved to New York. Previously, the show's NY segments were taped at MTV's NY studios.

ET started life at the TAV Theater (home of the Merv Griffin Show) before moving to the Paramount lot a few years later. But that's going to change as ET and The Insider will both be in HD this fall, and their new home will be at the CBS Studio Center in Studio City, where KCBS/KCAL are based.

As for "Access Hollywood" in HD? That won't be until they move into the Universal lot next year. Ellen DeGeneres also tapes at NBC Burbank, meaning she might move to either CBS Television City or The Studios at KTLA Formerly Known as Tribune Studios (if George Kaufman had bought it, it would've been Kaufman Sunset Studios to go along with the Kaufman Astoria Studios he already has in New York).

WIIC-11 [now WPXI] carried Alberts' show for about a summer or two in the early 70s.

WKMG-TV in Orlando was the home for Jelly Bean Jungle, a low budget Saturday morning syndicated show in 1995 (the show continues to this day on the internet site jellybeanjungle.com).
