That is correct, WODS is the last of the big Boston FMs to not be running HD.
Eli Polonsky said:That's true, and also, I'm guessing that maybe an FM station doesn't have to mention their HD-1 unless they're also multicasting additional HD channels. Public radio stations WBUR and WUMB run HD for their main program with no multicast channels, and they don't mention HD in their ID's (and their ID's also include their rebroadcast stations in other locations, some of which run HD and some don't, but there's no mention of it).
WBZ certainly makes a big deal of HD in their ID's and AM's can't run additional multicast channels, but I guess there's nothing preventing them from promoting it even if they don't have to... or maybe AM's do have to. I don't know all the regulations on ID'ing HD's.
A radio station operating in DAB hybrid mode or extended hybrid mode shall identify its digital signal, including any free multicast audio programming streams, in a manner that appropriately alerts its audience to the fact that it is listening to a digital audio broadcast.
Scott Fybush said:The FCC blew it, big time, when they crafted the legal ID rules for HD. Here's the current verbiage:

What does that mean? Nobody really knows, because nobody's tested it yet and the FCC hasn't clarified. Many stations are playing it safe by adding a "WXXX-HD" to their legal IDs, notwithstanding that that's not an official FCC suffix. Others believe that by putting their calls in the PAD data that's displayed on HD receivers, that's "appropriately alert(ing)" their audience.
It's an incredibly poorly written regulation, and a fat target for anyone who wants to bother challenging it.
