How important is it to most people to have local programming? Do the majority of people care if their favorite program originates in Peoria instead of Providence? Obviously local talent care. But I'm not talking about local talent. I want to hear from the important people which is THE AUDIENCE.
As a listener, I don't give a rats ass where programming originates from as long as I'm entertained. However most of my favorite programming seems to be syndicated. So perhaps on some level the added professionalism of National talent is appealing to me.
My favorite show on WPRO is Michael Savage. My favorite show on WSAR is Joey Reynolds. My favorite morning program is Howard Stern. So I seem to generally prefer syndication. I place almost Zero importance on local issues since it's all political garbage anyway. Personally when I think of a radio station or even a TV station, one thought often comes to mind. I think of how nice they are to give me free access to their satellite dish. It may be a weird way of thinking, but that's how I feel. Right now it's 2:00 AM and I'm tuned into Joey Reynolds. I'm using WSAR's satellite dish. Other nights I listen to Art Bell. So I use WPRO's Dish as well. Do you know how expensive a satellite dish is? These stations save me a load of cash! ;D
But seriously, Am I in the minority or not? Does it matter to you if a program is local or National? Does it effect your listening habits?
