Syndication and online stream data

I was listening to semi-local CHBE one late Saturday night a couple of weeks ago as AT40 concluded. One thing I noticed was that they were still displaying stream data as if they were local. Why is this so uncommon with syndicated programming? The only times I've seen it other than that one time on CHBE during a syndicated program is where the afiliates are allowed to customize the music.

Ok that makes sense. However, AT40 does not have customized music, that would not work. However, the station was still displaying stream data as if they were local.

Someone could have been there manually submitting artist - title data to the encoder.. That's always possible too.. One with computer programming skills could in theory write scripting if they knew what the syndication show was playing to send artist - title data to the stream... however for MOST FMs this would be too much work for them to care to do (and maintain) ..

As others said.. most syndicated programming outside of the kind that you bring your own music are in 10-15 min segments that all content is self contained..

You are probably right about manual encoding. Seems like if you have the script ready that should be easy to do, just enter the songs in, and it's ready to go. So why don't more stations do that?

So, does anyone know if this has to do with Canadian content regulations? It sounds to me like CHBE probably wouldn't do it if they didn't have to. If they are doing this by choice, I still don't see why stations in this country do not do that. If it is a regulatory issue, I can see why stations in this country wouldn't do it, because they don't want to take the time to do it and there are no regulations about content.

AT40 sends the song metadata with the show so that stations can update RDS and online info. Stations that are set up to pass the metadata through usually do.
