Syndication for 2021-2022

Okay. Happy New Year first off. Okay now to the best part. This week was the NATPE 2021 for television stations. NATPE has released some new titles hitting syndication this year, 2021. From what I know, Nick Cannon will be premiered this fall after the fallout in July 2020. You Bet Your Life, which is 85% coverage. Niecy Nash, from CBS. Law & Order: SUV goes to daily syndication. Young Sheldon is most likely to hit broadcast syndication this fall, after being syndicated on "Nick at Nite. Any thoughts?

UPDATES: The Launch Group for Young Sheldon is Nexstar Media Group. Usually WB uses Tribune I believe, but most Tribune stations moved to Nexstar.

Law & Order: SVU going into daily syndication is just another thing that's saturated all over the dials. Aren't they already on ION and MyNetworkTV?
Jay Leno is the host for the new YBYL. The previous revivals have lasted a blue moon and sailed into the sunset before the season ended. Including one with Bill Cosby long before we knew his dark side. Good luck Jay!
Nick Cannon's show, while I'm very early in saying this, will likely end up on KCYU (Fox). Who's going to get cancelled and which sitcom reruns are leaving is another question, and we'll know later this spring/summer.

Meanwhile, the $1,000,000 question: How likely will we see half-full to full audiences at ANY of these new shows in the post-Covid era?

There was also a version with Buddy Hackett in the early 80's that lasted only one season and to my knowledge I never saw until some episodes ended up on You Tube. And there was also a pilot with Richard Dawson that never made it any further. I hope Jay is able to do better with this.

The problem with some of the shows that have signed deals haven't got a Website yet and like KC area deal with all station group that has stations here would be guessing which one.

I think Young Shelton will be on WOTV or WXSP more likely WOTV and one of the sitcoms WOTV airs The Goldburgs or Blackish moves to WXSP but who knows Sinclair owns Big Bang which airs at 7PM to 8PM on CW7. The List now airs on WXMI Fox17 Sundays at 11:30AM when Fox doesn't air sports or pregame at that time will be moved once fall comes since they air Lions Gameday Live during the Lions season. Bet On Your Life goes on either CW7 or WXSP my guess CW7 since Who Wants To Be A Millionaire repeats will end come next fall.

Be interesting who gets Nick Cannon's talker in the fall.

Young Sheldon could be interesting. In my market, I wonder if KIMA will carry it? They run Big Bang Theory reruns weeknights and could move Inside Edition to noon and run Young Sheldon at 6:30 after Action News, and then BBT. The Simpsons, STILL ran at 7:30 to this day, is too popular in Yakima to move off the timeslot IMO. When (eastern time) does Inside Edition go out on the satellite to the stations? If it's early enough, my wild prediction would count.

Young Sheldon will likely be on WMYT here in Charlotte. The best place for it would be 7 and 7:30 but I I can’t see it at that time because WJZY, WMYT’s sister station, has its parent show Big Bang Theory at 7:30, unless they moved it (unlikely). Plus WMYT has Two and a Half Men at that time. So I bet it might be at 6 and 6:30. The People’s Court would have to move.

What gets me is American Housewife is eligible for broadcast syndication this fall, yet it isn’t going to be launched until the fall of 2022. What are they waiting for? And don’t even get me started on ABC announcing yesterday that it is getting only 12 episodes this year and having its time slot stolen by a new sitcom Home Economics...so it might get cancelled this year. (But that’s getting off topic).

The Fox O&O's are signed on for both Nick Cannon and You Bet Your Life
Which means they will get slotted to late night here (Atlanta) as WAGA has local news to 11 AM and 12 noon with court shows, talk shows and celebrity train wreck shows occupying all other non-news times up to prime time.

I think Young Sheldon will land at WACH. WACH is home to majority of Chuck Lorre's Comedies, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and WACH did have Mike & Molly but it was removed in Summer 19. Also WIS-DT2 has Mom, so it might interesting to see what happens. Currently WACH only airs Big Bang in the Weeknights range (7-8pm). This fall WACH started it's comedy block at 11:30p this year by moving Two and a Half Men at 11:30p, adding Schitt's Creek at 12a, proceeding with Black-ish at 12:30a & 2a and Modern Family at 1 & 1:30a. But Young Sheldon might be airing at sometime in the evening probably 6:30 if WACH continues Feud or moves 2.5 Men in latenight and add YS at 11:30 on probably a secondary in the overnight. But I might be suprised on what happens.

That’s not stolen. That’s how the business goes. Just like American Housewife aired in a slot once occupied by something else. Circle of life.

Nick Cannon was probably going to WJZY or WMYT last year. But now it could be WCCB or even WCNC if they don’t pick up the Judge Judy reruns (seems like I heard he was going to some Tegna stations).

You Bet Your Life could end up on WJZY or WMYT since I saw Nexstar mentioned...it could end up at 7 or 7:30 on WJZY. If BBT is moved out of prime access, I could see YS at 7 and 7:30 on WMYT. Maybe BBT cuts back to two runs in the fall. It just doesn’t make sense for the two shows to go head to head with one another.

I wonder if Kelly Clarkson gets renewed for their third season? On average, every new daytime talk show they debuted only last two seasons. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am hearing that the show is not doing well for its second season ratings wise. If true, I think that this pandemic may be a factor for its possible decline in ratings. For this season, they only have the "virtual" audience, not in-person like Ellen now does.

As for the Drew Barrymore show, I would like to know how are the ratings? Upon the show's launch, no in-person audience, but just like Kelly's. they have a "virtual" audience as well as celebrity guests interviewed virtually. Suppose the show gets a renewal for the second season and this COVID situation is under control, I would suspect it would then evolve into a much traditional daytime variety talk show with more new segments now that they would allow an in-person studio audience.

So, 2021-22 would be the season where everything gets back to normal, depending on the pandemic situation.

It has been renewed for TWO more seasons. 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' Renewed Through 2023

In fact, she is being groomed to take over the 3pm slot on the NBC O&O’s when Ellen is cancelled which could be as soon as this fall.

Surprisingly WJZY (Fox) is removing her from their schedule next week when they launch their noon and 4pm news. Kelly will only be on WMYT (MyNet) at 3. She has also been on WJZY at 10am but they are putting 25 Words or Less at 10am.

Wow! That's a rarity. New daytime talk shows post-Oprah usually only last for two years I wonder if Drew Berrymore will make the cut.

Kelly being the next Ellen sures seem promising, but I think that Ellen will still stick around despite all the controversies surrounding the show in regards to misconduct. If Ellen leaves, then I think Kelly would be key to saving this struggling syndicated daytime lineup especially talk shows.

Speaking of Ellen, our ABC station, WNEP 16, used to air the show at around 10am since the show's launch back in '02, but now has recently moved to the 3pm slot since sometime last year. Taking the 10am time slot now is 25 Words or Less.

Just found out (and this may have been going on for a while -- there's been no promo for it) that CMT has American Housewife reruns from midnight to 2a CT weeknights.

Ellen's YouTube clips are still getting a lot of views even with the controversies with her producers. A recent clip of Justin Bieber on the show netted 2,800,000+ views. I think Ellen still sticks around for 2-3 years, enough to establish a better relationship with her staff but also, hopefully, to transition back to normal audiences in the fall.

Drew Barrymore has been struggling. Last I checked their rating was only 0.5, below Dr. Oz and even Steve Wilkos! I'd be lucky if she made it to season 2. 'Live with Kelly & Ryan' and Dr. Phil are both on top of the talk-show ratings, and Kelly Clarkson has beat Ellen slightly at times. And can someone tell CBS Television Distribution to quietly ride The Doctors into the sunset already? A 0.2 rating, at the bottom, and it keeps getting renewed!

In the sitcom ratings, Black-ish, Bob's Burgers, and Schitt's Creek don't even measure in the TVNewsCheck syndicated ratings, so they all have to be below 0.7 (the lowest on the ratings, with Mom). Wonder why a current show like Black-ish has failed in syndi reruns? And as we reach 10 years since Charlie Sheen's last 'Two and a Half Men' episode, the reruns are still netting a 1.0-1.1 and beating several currently-run rerun strips. That is impressive. Just like Seinfeld, and the 0.9 they still have to this day!
