Syntax Bites The Dust

OK Folks:

Many of you didnt know about this label called Syntax Recordings which had offices in New York City. It was music label that did deep house and underground sound.

I wanted to seek help in talking to the owner about something. But my question is.

Who owned and ran that business?

Why did it go out?

What will happen to its distribution subsidiary?

Can anyone help me on that? I want to talk to the owner.

Syntax distribution closed quite some time ago.....I can find out who owned the label and pm you with the info....

This is from another board:

http://www.rhythmism.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63765&highlight=syntax

this was the annoucement:
After over 10 years and countless records, Syntax is closing its doors.

Digital distribution, closing stores, a weak dollar, a poor economy and the rising cost of every aspect of distributing vinyl have brought us to an end.
We're all very sad here as this has been our passion and livelihood for as long as we've been "adults", but the time has come to move on.
It has been a pleasure to deal with you (almost all of you!)
This Friday, January 11th will be our last day. Our phones are no longer working so if you need to contact anyone here please e-mail [email protected]

Best of luck with all your endeavors.

Sincerely,
The Syntax Crew

I would owe you alot on this Becka.

I am one of the growing underground music lovers who are frustrated that the underground labels are ceasing.

This economy is the worse I have seen in years...Bush shouldnt have gone 4 more years....That's why the economy is a mess....Because of him.

Oh, well, let's not turn this into a political discussion now - it's not really the chimp's fault that the industry has been suffering - things have just changed ;)

The one person I know who might have this info on syntax hasn't been online for me to ask - I think with the time difference we keep missing each other.....but either way, it's like this - the industry as a whole has changed....record shops closing, distributors closing, labels going under...it's a big problem. I´m actually surprised Syntax lasted as long as they did, with the way things were going. Here in Europe, maybe not so much since vinyl still commands some level of respect, but it's slowly changing here too. If you are really seeking underground music, why not try looking on digital sites - a lot of these labels have changed their business model, so rather than press vinyl and lose money, they just release digitally. I have a label, and this was the option I chose....it's not worth pressing vinyl just for the sake of doing so (and for the few purists left who may or may not buy the release). I have a release on Paul Van Dyk's label too - they are still doing some vinyl releases, but even they do limited pressings then release the rest of the stuff digitally, that's how bad it is - even for the big labels. At first, lots of people baulked at the idea, but now it is really taking over and I think this is the wave of the future. I imagine you are familiar with Beatport? If not, check the site out.....you will find tons of music there. You have to dig through a lot of stuff to find the real gems sometimes, but there's loads of quality stuff if you have time to look and listen.

To DJ Becka

I am going to need the names of the owners of Syntax Recordings. I believe they can come back stronger since Obama is coming to the White House.
