Considering SYR as a possible market to relocate to...does anyone know what the salary range is in the market? Also, are the companies paying ratings bonuses to talent? ANY info you have is appreciated. Thanks.

Clear Channel is the dominant station owner in Syracuse. Need I say more?

Forget salary dude, birds do not even fly over this lake it is so polluted. There are a high number of comb-overs in this area as well. Beware. On the plus side, Syracuse has some slammin Italian food.

For more than one thousand years, the Onondaga Indian Nation has lived in and around Onondaga Lake. The Onondaga people have a unique spiritual and cultural relationship with the lake and the land around it;
That relationship is embodied in Gayanashagowa, the Great law of Peace, which has governed their actions for over one thousand years;The Onondaga consider themselves stewards of the land, and are fighting to clean and restore Lake Onondaga for the sake of all the people of Central New York now living and for generations yet unborn.There are people in the community who fish in the Lake and eat the fish that they catch;Onondaga Lake has been severely polluted by Allied Chemical, which was subsequently acquired by Honeywell;For decades, Allied Chemical dumped mercury and other toxic and carcinogenic chemicals, like PCBs, lead, chlorobenzenes, cyanide and dioxins into Lake Onondaga;Contaminants found in Onondaga Lake's water, sediment, soil, plants and fish include: 17 heavy metals (including Mercury/Methylmercury, Arsenic and Cyanide), seven Volatile Organic Compounds (including Benzene and Toluene), five Semivolatile Organic Compounds (including Hexachlorobenzene), eight Pesticides/Polychlorinated Biphenyls (including DDT) and Dioxin/Furans; At present, there are no warning signs posted around the Lake to warn of the hazards of consuming fish, especially for children and pregnant women.

Do not come to Syracuse. Not a money market. Four years behind the times. Forget any bonuses...you get to keep your job. Go to a top 20 market. Where there are great radio stations and money to make.

Go to school in "Cuse" and get paid, pad your resume and then get out. Avoid Ed Levine. Syracuse is the kind of place where you learn in a (somewhat) urban environment. You'll find plenty of never-has-beens who've scored a husband/wife who gets the fatter check and bennies. Top tier morning mouths in Salt City couldn't get an afternoon gig in Hartford or even Buffalo. Avoid Ed Levine. Bring a few shovels because the hardware store runs out of them once New Years socks you in.

Take one look at Onondaga Lake or Electronics Parkway a week before Thanksgiving and don't look again.Insist upon vacation time if you're an established talent in negotiations because you'll need to get away by March 1st. Don't even think that DestinyUSA is nothing more than a pipedream. And always avoid Ed.

If you're thinking upstate the only markets that kind of pay are Buffalo, Rochester and, perhaps, Albany. And those towns ain't so great either. If you like ice fishing, no growth and radio markets where Nostalgia-for-the-Depends-crowd is an option just to pay the power bill then the "Cuse" could be fated upon you.

Like many however I do hold some fondness for the area. I learned to tolerate winter activities for example. This is a must. Try skiing, skating, cross country, snowmobiling etc. I'm also somewhat peeved that SU Lacrosse tanked this spring. Oh yeah learn about things like Lacrosse in "Cuse".

Get tough. Only high altitude locations like Mount McKinley or the Rockies get more "Lake Effect" type drifts than upstate. Labrador has better weather and you'll need to prepare. And don't get a part-time gig in Syracuse only to get suckered into a trip down the Thruway or 81 doing nights in Watertown, Binghamton or Utica. Wait it out, enjoy the ice and get into the Top 50 the really, really hard way. And always avoid Ed Levine.
