Syracuse airchecks from 1995

Thanks for these. I used to listen to 93Q a lot when I was younger in the late 90s usually via summer tropo that brought the signal where I am closer to Watertown. I never recorded any airchecks, just songs. So these are pretty cool to have.

This was from early March 1995 I believe.

93Q Part 2

A few things of note.

These would have had to have been early 1996, based on the music, and also the contest was for Muppets Treasure Island movie passes... Movie released 16 February 1996. That, plus the lake effect snow and temps indicate a late Jan or Feb timeframe.

Also, to the other poster... that was likely not trop into Watertown, but the actual signal. WNTQ came in pretty good over there until WCIZ changed frequencies from 93.5 to 93.3 in the mid to late 90s.

I have a question about 93Q Part 1. That jingle that's heard at about 2:40 was used by Z100 in NYC in the 80s. I guess 93Q used it for longer. I wonder how widely used that variant was. I don't think any stations in New England used it. What was the production company, and are they still around?

The package was from 1989 called "Turbo Z" and was made for Z100 (like "Warp Factor" which was used by 93Q and WNYZ in Utica). Jam Creative Productions here in Dallas made the package and are still in business.

Was Turbo Z ever used in Utica? I recall hearing the Turbo Z "New York City Weath-errrrrrr" jingle airing as "Central New York Weath-errrr" somewhere up here, but this was well before I even had any idea I'd eventually be interested in this stuff... so it could have been 93Q, but before hearing these clips, I would have argued WRCK was using the package at some point, back when they used to be CHR as "Power Hits - Rock 107."

I worked at WNYZ in Utica from 1986 to 1989. The station launched with the "Warp Factor" package in 1985 and rode it until somewhere in 1988. We went to mostly liners when we dropped the "New York's Z" moniker and went with "Z 98.7". Shortly after I left in April of '89, the station flipped to it's current AC format. So, the Warp Factor package is probably where you heard Central NY Weather as there were 2 weather beds in the the package and both started with that. I don't recall Rock 107 using "Turbo Z". I wouldn't think Jam would have sold 2 CHR packages in the same market. Especially since both packages sounded very similar. And you might very well have heard it on 93Q since it used to boom into Utica and New York's Z used to boom into Syracuse.

The guy at the end of pt 1 pronounced pulaski wrong lol.

Ive heard other Pulaski's pronounced that way, and when they advertise Pulaski Furniture (not based in NY), its pronounced that way. The only Pulaski Ive heard pronounced ending in "sky" instead of "ski" is the one here in NY.

I was only busting. Its no big deal although a "Mister Big Voice" concert ad in the 80's pronounced the Onondaga County War Memorial, On on DAY ga once and with the slick sound of those ads, it was very funny.
