TA DX Season 2012/2013 has begun!

I'm still (barely) picking up their audio signal, but it is fading in and out.

Something new this year, is that I'm running my DX-440 (and soon my D5, as well) through a Yamaha RX-V995, which really helps picking up the base from those signals. =D

OK, I'm back down to 540...looking to (finally) bag that CBK!

What? You mean there is actually a station that I've heard and you haven't? ;D

Good to hear TA is back! I've been putting off moving my antenna to another location. I guess the time has come. Of course with the dry year we've had down here, I'll have to water the relo-spot for several days, or risk bending/breaking my shovel.

Leave it to Tincap to open the TA DX season. Congrats on your first catch. First of many, I'm sure....and I predict that this'll be the year you'll bag CBK. Its as good as done!

You forgot kilokat7 in MI-another big DXer who gets a lot of TA stuff...

I'm a equal opportunity DX fan. Here's wishing many happy hours and many great catches for kilokat during the coming season! I'll look forward to his posts.

Mario, "TA" stands for Trans Atlantic.

Truly remarkable stuff Kilokat. Your reception of Australia on 702 is beyond fantastic! I've bookmarked your page.

My congrats to Tincap for "doing it barefoot"! I need big wires to pull those signals in here, and I have yet to hear Hungary on 540 or Radio Farda on 1575! Honestly though, the old '440 is a great little radio. Some of my best catches were with the flea-market '440. A big thanks to this whole group for getting me motivated and rediscovering this hobby after so many lost years.

Oh, and no TAs heard last night, only some very faint hets and those were few and far between. I expect things to get rolling next month.

No TAs yet, but KNBR from the other direction was coming in nicely the other morning.

OK. I went to your YouTube sight and what do I find? 702/Sydney as heard in Michigan. Now that's something!

Which way did you have your antenna directed?

The antennas are currently directed towards the South Pacific / North Atlantic. If I draw a line along the azimuth path of the antennas, it passes over central Texas and falls below Australia along this theoretical line. I'm hoping for better reception this season by tweaking the direction of the antennas a bit since they are very directional. We'll see.

Signals from down under were encouraging this morning but I think I got up too late. Several hets were noted in the usual places on the lower end of the band during sunrise this morning, 702 (Sydney) & 738 KHz (Tahiti) are the ones to watch here just before sunrise.

TA = Trans Atlantic station
TP = Trans Pacific station
DU = "Down Under" station - Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific, etc.

I don't know much about antennae, although I'm curious about the possibilities. Having said that, my wife would never let me string those wires across the yard, lol!

I bought my '440 new, back in the very early '90s. It's travelled, it's been dropped a lot, it's lead a rough life, but it's only been lately that I've been able to discover what it can do. I saw a Sangean 803a (the DX-440 is a rebrand of this model) up in Ottawa last year, for $80. I should've picked that one up right way...just in case my current beasty finally craps out on me! :p

Just some hets last night. Hopefully the MW DX season will make up for the poor E-skip season (I like E-skip, but it's too random for me, while working here in my home studio)...though I was pretty happy with the FM catches I picked in early June!

I've heard NHK 594, 693 and 774 Japan barefoot, so I'm not the only one!

774 seems especially impressive to me, given that you have a local 770. Nicely done!
