My GF works as a server at Fridays on City Line Avenue, she just called me and said she was waiting on a table where 4 distinguished gentleman with suits and of course brief cases were seated. She heard them say they are taking BEN out of the park and switching it to the old Sunny format. The new signal at 97.5 is going main stream Jazz and OGL will become Jack in the shuffle. This is what she told me she overheard, just speculation on her part and she did not question them. She could not give a crap about radio. Oh, BTW they left her a 20.00 tip, must of been GM, CC people are too cheap to leave more than a buck. She also told me she heard them say somebody is going Alternative or Hard Rock, but she did not hear the whole conversation, or what station. I am just filling you guys in, take it for what its worth. I am so glad I am out of radio, worked for those ass clowns (when they were just babies in the market, can anyone say Chancellor/AM-FM), for 10 years in Bala. Now I can just sit back and watch the ------ hit the fan. For anyone who had a bet on JG and Star, if you said JG beat Star to the punch, you win the cigar.

Werent you the one who said that MMR was "sharpening it's edge" for the "new kid in town"????

OGL is owned by Infinty and not by GM either, so doubt they would know what OGL is doing.... ;)

Stem, for being a receptionist, you seem to know A LOT about radio. Just an observation...

Anyhow, I have noticed BEN has added more soft rock titles, not typical of a variety hits station. So, this one MIGHT have some legs. If that's the case, smart money on the Christmas battle would be between 95.7 and 101.1. Maybe 98.1 - that's if they're not Jack by then. I still think that, if Ben bails and picks up Soft AC, OGL's current format goes buh bye.

I still wonder if GM is just gonna wait idly by for the sale to go thru or are they scrambling to LMA with Nassau. I think they're missing a golden opportunity here.

The problem with what your GF heard is inorder for discussions about whats gonna happen at various stations owned by 2 companies, people from the 2 companies would have to have been eating together, and planing all of this. I'm not a radio expert, but I know they don't do that sort of thing.

Ben adding more soft rock means nothing, other than they want to attract some of the former Sunny listeners. GM does tyhis all the time. When y100 went off the sir, MMR had an open letter to Y100 listeners, but as you can see, MMR isn't a modern rock station.

So that means you started working there full time when you were, oh say, 16 years old?

Interesting...

Stem clarified herself by saying "Take it for what it's worth". Let's be honest it's pretty much common sense regarding how the pieces will fall regarding the two flips yesterday. BEN's RDS read for quite some time today "Moving Out" by Billy Joel, even while other songs were playing. It could be a glitch or it could be a hint. It would make sense to me that "BEN" will move to 97.5 and 95.7 would become either "Magic 95.7" or Smooth Jazz 95.7. I see 98.1 staying as is, but you never know. The big question remains though, is Philly 106.1 for real? Or is it to confuse the other stations? My bet is on 104.5 becoming alternative rock and 106.1 taking the "My 106" moniker. "Take that for what it's worth", and Stem, good job relaying what you know.

Like I said, Ben giving any hints means nothing with GM. They may have left Moving Out on the RDS on purpose, but it could've meant now that 106.1 is movin, move over to ben.

Also, say all this stuff is true, since what was overheard included a new Alternative, wouldn't it be smarter for GM to protect its rock cluster by fliping ben alternative first, instead of going smooth jazz? Or maybe they still have nightmares about MAX 95.7

Reading something into a stuck RDS display? That's looking way too deep into things. Ben's RDS signal has gotten stuck more often than it works for weeks, if not months, now. I hardly think the fact that it got stuck on a Billy Joel song is some deeper message.

I understand your speculation about WBEN, but why would WOGL even consider a formatic shift when it is currently Top 5 25-54 and a direct competitor just left the format? You'd think they are popping corks at 98.1. Also, some might speculate that the real hole in this market is a younger male rock station, which CC has had great success with elsewhere and it's a great fit in their cluster.
Regarding the new Philly 106.1...if you follow the playlist , it's about 70% from WBEN. The new battle to watch seems to be 95.7 against 106.1. in a quest for 30 something women.

I know corporate suits laugh at what is written on this and other boards. Too bad --- they are ignoring some useful info!

In the many years I spent in the Philadelphia market I never saw the "suits" do a power lunch at Fridays! Marabella's, maybe, but more likely an off-the-beaten path small fine restaurant or private dining room.

And they would certainly not discuss such matters in public where others could hear...

Sorry to disagree with you, but I have had the occasion to see, say hi and chat, with many media humans, dining in the eateries on City Line Avenue. Many anchors, news people, jocks, suits, you name it. I saw Mr. Levy dine at the Olive Garden and many others. I know for a fact, the big shots do dine in places along the Avenue, from mom and pop small restaurant types, to the Chain establishments. Some are real, top notch, nice people and some are Big Pr**ks, but you have that in every profession. To sum it up you can find any Radio Honcho dining anywhere, when they are in a short time frame. If this story is true, it can only mean something is hot and will go down by Monday. I think CC is playing with everyones minds, they are known for that. My opinion is 104.5 is the AC/Rhythmic with Whoopie and Rock is let loose on Z-106. Hispanic will never surface on a local FM outlet in this city, just won't happen. Watch the other copycat, no nothing board grab this story. When will they ever have anything original to post. I am so tired of that Eagle making a fool of himself with his tired posts and stupid answers to his own questions.
