Take your Zanax People Because WJJZ IS NOT COMING BACK!!

If you believe that you can "bring WJJZ back" I have some property between Penn's Landing and the NJ Adventure Aquarium I would like to sell you! You could write 10,000 letters and call until you are blue in the face, lean in and listen...WJJZ IS NOT COMING BACK (unless another companies adopts the format)

1. You will NOT loose your home (unless you were dumb enough to get an adjustable
rate mortgage)

2. You will NOT die.

3. The apocalypse is not going to occur.

4. Famine and disease will NOT break out.

5. Hopefully you "WJJZ resurrectors" will discover a small invention called...THE
IPOD, either that or you will NOT forget to take your little white pill that your doctor
prescribes for you.

I can't say I blame em for trying. These are the same people who raised holy hell the last time and to them, it probably seems like the protests worked! The average person has no idea that Greater Media had no clue what else to do with 97.5. And the fact that they slapped the WJJZ calls on it only reinforced the notion that they were recreating the station because people were asking for it.

Even though Smooth Jazz would have been attempted on 97.5 even without the WJJZ 106.1 public uproar, I'm sure in some itsy-bitsy way the uproar helped Greater Media make the decision. But even if one chooses to believe it was wholly based on message board complaints, letter writing campaigns, and ten people picketing out front of Clear Channel's offices, let's face it: Lightning doesn't strike twice!

Not unless a Bob Altimari is appointed regional VP of Clear Channel Philadelphia.. ;D

There was an interesting point made, um, elsewhere. What if Radio One thinks they might be able to make more money by changing one of their Philly properties to Smooth Jazz? It would be hilarious to watch but if anyone has a shot at making the format work here, it's them. They certainly wouldn't let Broadcast Architecture get anywhere near it. And the format fits neatly enough with their "vision."

WPPZ, the lowest-rated of their stations, costs about a dollar a week to operate so maybe that can just stay as it is. But WRNB doesn't seem to be working out for them and WPHI is light years below its nearest competitor--and it has more than one. Plus, I have to imagine WPHI has the highest overhead of any of their Philly stations.

Sure, WJJZ had fewer listeners than even WPHI...but they were from a more lucrative demographic. That, in conjunction with the money saved by blowing out WPHI's entire staff and flipping to a completely automated Smooth Jazz format might be worth it to them.

Consider your pot stirred.

But... But.... If 100.3 flips to Smooth Jazz, everybody will miss those 185 spins a week of Yung Jeezy, Yung Wun, Yung Buck, Yung Jock, Yung Berg, and Yung Chen!!!!

Why did rap/hip-hop stop being good in 1997?

LOL. Cumulatively, those people totaled fewer than 700,000 in August. I'd venture a guess that each of them is aware of Power 99 and Wired 96.5. I hate to say things like this but...100.3 The Beat would be genuinely missed by very few people.

Interestingly, 106.1 HD-2 appears to be the tropical format that couldn't make it as a regular station at 104.5. Surely, more people will tune to in on 106.1 HD-2, right? LOL. I say put the smooth jazz back!
