Taking bets on who flips first WJJZ or 950

Martini is doing great with the 30 mile radius signal daytime and the 5 mile radius signal at night....Standards would explode on 97.5 but would GM dare try it, we all know its about the young money spenders. But don't ya think a 4.5 rating with Standards would still be better than a 0.4 SJ rating. Do the math....it looks good on paper to the average advertiser...

Show me a market that can get a 4.5 rating for Standards, and I'll show you John McCain's key voter demographic!

A 4.5? Here? With that? What planet are you from?

The average advertiser (who has to make decisions between buying broadcast TV, cable TV inserts, Philadelphia radio, suburban radio, Philadelphia newspapers, suburban newspapers, internet, flyers under the windshields on cars in the supermarket, etc.) wants to see the breakdowns. 4.5 12+ with standards looks good on paper -- and that's about it.

Sports, on AM or FM, will never be a major success in this town without at least one of the major teams on board for play by play.

Breaking News: 950 flips to Cruisin Oldies...

(950 in Denver, that is...)

Maybe PEN could go dance as "Hot 950" so A) us anti-dance people will be happy this will "shut em up" and B) the kiddies will start to wonder if "world domination will soon be theirs". Then C) when it tanks after mere weeks, we can turn around and say "Duh, we told you so".

Good point, Mike, but I don't think Mr. Phillips knows who Mr. DeBlois is, let alone could he spell his name correctly.

In regards to Rockin Rob's idea of 950am going "Dance", i would go for it. Philly doesn't have a real station to play non-commercial dance/club music. It's a niche audience that could be catered to. I'm actually old enough to remember Wizzard100 in the 70's during disco's heyday. It could be the new nostalgia station for those of us in our 40's.

Wizzard 100 was an utter and complete failure. It never really got any traction.

That's because it wasn't WIBBAGE.
And they didn't DO it right...that was why WIZZARD was a total failure. I KNOW that at the last minute, Wibbage almost survived...a case of "seller's remorse" almost. Also had they STAYED Wibbage, they could have grown with the audience. But it's all moot, because the FCC didn't COMMAND a STEREO system...and FM was just too dominant. But COMPELLING PROGRAMMING would have saved 990. Still would TODAY. But it's TOO bland. Oh...and WFIL was actually getting MEN back in '85 when Reynolds was on there. He was actually getting decent adult men numbers on the re-done Famous 56.
And I think it would work again today. I really DO. Done RIGHT. I have a plan and 80's ain't in it but ROCKIN' 60's and 70's WOULD be in the plan. I guess Salem is happy with .5 shares. Such a shame and a waste of a heritage frequency. PLUS...remember the INTERNET is hear now...and A GREAT BRAND NAME like Famous 56 WFIL would resonate.. Don't believe me? Check how many HITS Hy Lit Radio gets. Ask Sam. He'll tell you.

BE BIG!

In the words of Robert Plant "does anyone remember laughter"?????

Whomever bet on WJJZ won. I turned them on yesterday[ saturday ], and they played JOURNEY, followed by SHAGGY and ended with an announcement that "something new" was happening Monday at 9am, so I guess that's when the "Official" switch takes place.

Now if 950 really goes "Dance", I'll be a happy camper.

I'm going to go right ahead and judge you by the first four letters of your username.
