Talent You Miss

I was wondering what air talents people miss that were here in Philly at one point...I'd say Billy Hammond Q102, John Landers 106.1, motormouth Terry Young....(I know he was dated but very enjoyable to my ears) Joe Mama Q102 Brian Buck Wild 106.1

and an unrelated category: Christopher Knight (on the original "between the sheets" not the crappy reincarnation) and Chio at night on Q102 I think he was a much better night guy.

For my list, I'd start with pretty much the entire mid-'80s WIP lineup.

Others that come to mind...
Rumble & Thrower, Eagle 106 (sorry, I liked their morning show better than Lander overall)
Gary Leigh (Eagle, Star)
Harvey

Gary Leigh (WEGX), Sam Yudkin (WZGO), Melissa (WWSH), Banana Joe (WFIL, WYXR, WMGK), Dan Ingram (WCBS, WABC), Big Ron (WFIL, WYXR, WOGL), Ken Garland (WIP, WPEN), Max Vierra (WEGX), Scruff Connors (WYSP), Don and Mike (WPHT, WYSP), Mel Toxic (WIFI, WPST, WDRE, WYSP), Andy Gury (WIOQ, WPST, WHXT), Couzin Ed (WYSP), Big Jay Sorensen (WNBC, WPST, WKXW, WWDB, WPHT), Irv Homer (WWDB), Tom Marr (WWDB), Ruby Cheeks/Debra Luray (WYSP, WWDB, WPHT), Don Lancer (KYW, WPHT), Hy Lit (WIBG, WHAT, WSNI, WOGL, WDAS, WRCP), Freddie Izetti (WRFY), Trapper Brown (WRFY), Lee Paris (WXTU), Dr. Perri (WXTU), Cyndy Drue (WMMR, WYSP, WXTU), Jodi Vale (WDRE), Dan Binder (WDRE), Malibu Sue (WDRE), Paul Cavalcante (WDRE), DC (WJSE), Russ "Hammer" Allan (WIOQ), Chris Jagger (WIOQ), Karima the Screama (WIOQ), Janet From Another Planet (WIOQ, WNBC), Pat Delsi (WSSJ), Rod Phillips (WNAR, KYW), Marv Bachrad (KYW, Keystone Race Track), Jack Lamar (Keystone Race Track), Gene Hart (WIP, WCAU), Tom Moran (WIP, WPEN, WRDR), Joe Niagra (WIBG, WPEN, WCAU), EA Wood (WKSZ, WMGK), Dick Summer (WKSZ), Bill Gregory (KYW), Bill Bransome (KYW), Sandy Starobin (KYW), Bud Brees (WPEN), Nino "Grease(man)" Manelli (WYSP - aka Doug Tracht), Bob Grant (WABC, WOR, WWDB?), Ed Sciaky (WMMR, WYSP, WIOQ), Paul Mason (WFLN), Paul W Smith (WWDB), Steve Martorano (WPHT, WIP, WMMR), any anyone who graced the microphones at WCAU-FM "Hot Hits 98".

I miss Earle Bailey at WMMR. I liked his Saturday Rock and Roll Roots and I really looked forward to his Christmas morning shows where he had great mixes of different Christmas songs, non-Christmas but spiritual type songs, and classic Christmas sound bites from tv or film. He'd usually read the nativity story with music in the background and during the Gulf War there was music with news sound clips or greetings from soldiers.

Definitely Ed Sciaky
Dr. Don
Sandy Starobin...Harr-is-burg
Gene Hart (you're right Rockin' Rob, and I wouldn't have even thought of him if you hadn't mentioned him)
Tony Bruno (doing a local show)
Don Lancer
Mel Toxic

I reserve the right to add to my list as my old tired mind remembers more...

dr. dpn rose
jim o'brien
george michael
tom moran
joe niagara
allen stone
loren owens (remember him from 95-pen in the 70s
nat wright

Loren Owens was very funny in a style that fit the fast pace of 95-PEN. For the past 20 some years he's been in Boston, currently at WROR teamed with Wally Brine, Boston's longest running current morning team, streamed on their website. http://www.wror.com/

Rob I forgot about Mel Toxic..good one. I was going to say Greaseman but I thought he was sindicated. Was he actually here?

I was wondering what air talents you DON'T miss that were here in Philly at one point.

I knew I'd think of more. Can't believe I left him out in the first place.
Richie Ashburn.
Not only did he know what to say and when to say it, but he also knew when not to say anything.
Very unlike the baseball broadcasters in town now who can't seem to stand any empty space.
I always enjoyed hearing the sound of the stadium in the background between pitches and batters.
Sorry 'Wheels', Graham, and others... I don't need every second of my game filled with chatter.
Richie Ashburn... That is a talent I miss in Philly.

Wow, so many. Here's some who immediately come to mind...

Jim O'Brien, Dr. Don Rose, Jim Nettleton, George Michael, Long John Wade
Alex DeMeers, Harvey, Joe Niagra, Hy Lit, Tom Lamaine, Tom Moran, Dick Clayton
Maureen Flaherty, Mike St. John, Christie Springfield

I listen to Terry Young daily on Sirius XM's 60's on.

It seems like ages since I heard Mike Phillips' WNJC talk show. Or RJ's WNWR talk program, for that matter.

Jesus, how could I forget Whitey or Dr. Donald D. Rose? Thanks!!!

I selected Greaseman and Don And Mike, even tho their shows did not originate in Philly, they were heard here and I liked them. D&M was the power line-up days of YSP (with Stern mornings and O&A afternoon drive).

Don Cannon,Dick Clayton,Bill Gardner,Ed Richards and John "RECORDS" Landecker.

Don Kannon
Charly Bennit
Mike St. John

Christifer Night
Garry Brian
Craig Allen (WYXR)
Craig is at WSJO in South Jersey weekends, but I can't seem to find a time slot as to when he is on. Have heard him on there though.
Don Lander (Eagle)
Terry Yung (did more talkup on regular radio )
Mike Boe (WMGK, Classic Hits)
Earle Bailey (Was better on WMMR (AAA) then he is on Deep Tracks) also liked him on WWDB-FM.
Scott Loe (Former WAEB-FM, WPST

Nick and Ted (former WRFY morning show)
Dan Wade (WODE "Oldies 99" Easten, PA

Glenn Kalina is also on WBZC Fridays from 3pm to 7pm playing the best of the 80's and 90's

I miss those great WIP DJ's from the 1960s and 1970s: Joe McCauley, Jim Tate, Ned Powers, Tom Brown, Chuck Dougherty, Dick Clayton, Wild Bill Hickock, Ken Garland, Tom Moran, Tom Lamaine, Bill St. James, Nat Wright, and Bill Neil. All are first ballot Hall of Famers.

I also miss many of the DJs who resided on the upper floor in the Wellington Building: Joe Bonadonna, Ed Sciaky, Earl Bailey, Lyn Kratz, Mark Goodman, Anita, Steve Sutton, John Kraft, and Steve Martarano.
