Talk 1230 WYTS becomes Fox Sports

Looks like Clear Channel beat WBNS to the punch. Flipped to Fox Sports at 3pm today!

Not sure how I feel about this. I actually liked 1230 the way it was.

Wonder if they'll pick up Dan Patrick? Wouldn't mind Patrick and Rome, back to back.

Dan Patrick is already on 103.9

Well, I thought that WMNI 920 AM would pick up the FOX Sports network last month when it was dropped by WTDA-FM for all talk and that is what I posted on this board. It take it that WTDA will have to drop its only
Fox Sports network on the weekend? WTDA-FM is all FOX Sports on the weekend but all talk during the weekdays.

BTY, What did CC Columbus have to do to get out of all those talk show contracts they signed for WYTS 1230 AM a few weeks ago. It looks like they caned the Neal Bortz show after only three weeks on the air! Is this a record for his show?

Also, I take it that 1230 AM will still keep the Jim Rome show.

Yes, but Patrick is Premiere property. Kind of like when CC stole Rome from 1460 a few years back. I would have to think they're going to try to do this again. Makes sense...

Well there you go. I though it was Premiere. According to his wikipedia site (I know... not reliable), it says he's with Premiere... my bad.

"Patrick signed a syndication deal with Chicago-based Content Factory, which soon launched his new version of The Dan Patrick Show on October 1, 2007. It is distributed nationally by Premiere Radio Networks."

It could be that Patrick is using Premiere's network for distribution but Content Fractory manages the syndication aspect.

Yep, what he said:)

"Effective today at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT, WYTS-AM 1230 in Columbus, Ohio, flipped from Talk to an All-Sports format featuring FOX Sports Radio. "FOX Sports 1230, WYTS" will air the network weekdays from 12 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. - 12 a.m., in addition to The Jim Rome Show."

Dan Patrick has a Dr. Laura/Sean Hannity-ish deal going on where in all three cases Premiere distributes, but doesn't produce.

Well CC isn't known to make smart choices when it comes to programming. They took Joel off for moron Glenn Beck. John Corby wasn't happy with CC replacing Joel with Glenn. Calling Glenn Beck a moron on air on his show. The only successful formats that CC owned 1230 have was WCOL and WTPG. WTPG highest rating was 1.5. then flipped to Conservative Talk and see their ratings fall.

WVKO AM when it was airing progressive talk was beating WYTS and sometimes WRFD in the ratings.

Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz have more listeners than Savage when Savage was on WYTS.

Since syndicated Conservative Talk on 1230AM was so successful then why did CC flipped to Fox Sports?

I'm just asking for Stephanie Miller and Ed Schulz to be back on the air in Columbus. I do not care for Air America Radio. Plus Stephanie and Ed was the only two lib talkers making money.

Dan Patrick recently signed with Fox Sports. So WTDA will again be changing their lineup.

CC flipped 1360 KLSD in San Diego from Progressive talk to Sports over a year ago. The over 1 year sports station doesn't even show up in the ratings. Their numbers are so low they don't even rate.

Have you noticed that CC Columbus has again stood up the "Progressive Talk" format in Columbus by not placing it back on 1230 AM? At least it proved that it can garner higher ratings then the "Conservative Talk" format they last had on the frequency before the change to sports talk. Maybe Johnboy Crenshaw will sign on this one and let us know why he didn't consider "Progressive Talk" for 1230 again. Personnel, I don't see the "Sports Talk" format doing any/much better on 1230, at least ratings wise. Also, I wonder if Glenn Beck moving back over to WTVN had anything to do with decision on 1230 dropping the format. Now, WTVN has all the great syndicated stuff on the air and don't see a need to flank WTVN anymore with a sister station.

WFII -> WZNW -> WCOL -> WTPG -> WYTS -> ... WYTS. Doesn't look like this little format change will include a call letter switch as has been the case for every 1230 switch for the past 10 years. Maybe CC has realized that it's not worth the effort when they'll end up changing the format in 2 years time anyway. Regardless, they are going by "Your Total Sports" station WYTS.
