Snow Will Take Press Secretary Job, White House SaysThe talk about FOX NEWS RADIO and FOX NEWS CHANNEL host TONY SNOW becoming President BUSH's press secretary have become reality with word from the WHITE HOUSE that SNOW will take the job. An official announcement could come as early as TODAY (4/26). SNOW will be replacing the departing SCOTT MCCLELLAN; several reports indicate that SNOW, who was treated for colon cancer last year, had waited until getting the go-ahead from his oncologist before taking the job, and was cleared after medical tests administered last week.SNOW does a daily radio show for FOX; the network's plans for his show and timeslot are yet to be announced.
Fox News and politics make strange bedfellows.According to Talkers' Magazine's somewhat dubious "research project," Tony Snow was tied with Al Franken and financial advice guru Jim Cramer for the 13th largest talk radio audience (actually that should be 26th largest, counting all the ties for larger audiences). In that, he trails former Nixon Administration "plumber" and convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy (#12) and former Bush the Elder Administration "drug czar" Bill Bennett (#10). Reportedly, the administration thinks that Snow's experience arguing with callers and guests, qualifies him to deal with often difficult reporters.Fox feeds Snow's program live 9 am to 12 n ET, which puts him up against fellow conservative talkers Mike Gallagher from Salem (#6), Laura Ingraham from TRN (#5), Glenn Beck from Premiere (#8) and Liddy from Radio America (in hours two and three) among others. The show is mostly heard in smaller markets - often on delay - and often only one or two hours of the three hour show. Now, however, we can expect Stephanie Miller (#14) to use sound clips of Snow on her show, so he will be a continued presence in the late morning daypart. No word so far from Fox on whether anyone will fill Snow's radio slot.

Re: Talk About A Snow Job (UPDATE)

All Access adds:
SNOW will be replaced by FOX NEWS CHANNEL morning "FOX AND FRIENDS" co-host BRIAN KILMEADE and FOX commentator Judge ANDREW NAPOLITANO. "BRIAN AND THE JUDGE" will be heard 9a-Noon ET beginning TOMORROW (4/27).
This afternoon, Al Franken was ranting about Tony Snow, former Sunday morning talk show host, "crossing over" to the White House gig. He said, "can you imagine Bob Schieffer..." then stopped mid sentence and changed direction. Possibly before someone brought up George Stephanpolis, host of ABC's This Week. Of course, he went in the other direction to become the second former White House press secretary to go to ABC News (who was the first, trivia fans?). Tim Russert was a staff aide to Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Mario Cuomo before NBC hired him as a lobbyist. Now you know the rest of the story.

So I take it Snow's talk show on the radio is history...so does WKRC in Cincy bring back Glenn Beck?

We mustn't forget Ron Nessen who moved from NBC news to be President Gerald Ford's press secretary after he took office in 1974. Nessen later became a guest host on NBC's Saturday Night Live, I believe while press secretary.

Obviously Beck and Ingraham will benefit from this. But as much as I like Miller, I get tired of hearing how she's kicking everyone's ass. She's not beating Beck or Snow in any markets. It gets old.

I've put the sites of all the Snow affiliates on ChangeDetection, and 55KRC added Beck to its list of "who do you want to replace Snow" poll today? Ingraham (formerly of WBOB) and Ramsey (on 10-midnight now) were leading yesterday. Ingraham and Snow aren't replacing Beck or much of anyone anymore, save SF. Snow's affils were mostly pretty tiny. Here in Phoenix, heritage KTAR coincidentally dumped Snow for local 5a-midnight.

And the Answer is....
All Access: WKRC/Cincinnati Adds IngrahamCLEAR CHANNEL Talk WKRC-A/CINCINNATI decided not to take FOX NEWS RADIO's replacement for TONY SNOW (BRIAN KILMEADE and Judge ANDREW NAPOLITANO) and instead grabs TALK RADIO NETWORK's LAURA INGRAHAM show for 9a-Noon starting MONDAY (5/1). SNOW exited his show to join the BUSH administration as Press Secretary on WEDNESDAY.

Seattle PI reports KVI will take Tony Snow's replacements "Brian and the Judge" from Fox on an "interim basis." (Translation: Still shopping.) KVI has had trouble filling the time slot, according to the PI. They lost Rush to another station. They tried TRN's Rusty Humphries and that "didn't work." Then they go with Fox's Tony Snow, who goes to work for Bush (some might say he's been working for Bush all along).
