Couldn't the Zone have picked up a little FSR before and after Rome? I think 4 or 5 hours on air is a borderline radiothon! (now six, which I had to do because the person after me called in sick at the college station last semester, would be a radiothon!) Did George and the Gang want a raise? Does Frank have nothing to do since he retired? What's next? dumping FSR and merging the Wake Up and Sports Zones so that there'd be 6 guys in the booth 24/7?

I have to agree you wholeheartedly 100%. Dropping HHH for a repeat of the Wake-Up Zone was just plain stupidity. Then allowing Darrin McFarland to solo for the hour after Jim Rome is even a dumber decision than dropping HHH. Darrin McFarland is the most unprepared, unprofessional, third rate air personality in Nashville radio today. And Tuesday had to the DUMBEST move every made by the Zone, spending from 2:00 PM until 8 or 9:00 PM holding a radiothon to sell Predator tickets. Is it little wonder the Zone didn't finish in the Top 10 in the latest ratings? As much as everyone on this board hates the Fan, I would much rather listen to 106.7 The Fan than anything the Zone airs.
Edited by jwk1979 on 09/01/05 04:29 PM.

Please don't even kiddingly encourage the Zone to pick up any more FSR than they already are. FSR is bad, bad, bad. And awful.

Practically anything they can do that results in dumping FSR is okay by me. A station such as the Zone should be doing everything it can to add local hours between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. M-F. Besides, you need to be promoting local radio if you expect a job in radio after you graduate!

HHH was dropped so that the Zone could be all sports, because his contract had come to an end, and so that they could sell a fourth live hour of the Wake-Up Zone (they had a waiting list). The repeat hour of the Wake-Up Zone wasn't even a consideration in the dropping. And the repeat hour is only there, as is the 2:00 hour, because they're locked into Rome. If they could only dump Rome, they'd look a lot less stupid and Nashville airwaves would be a better place.

The Predathon was part of the $$$$ package the Zone has with the Preds.

You're looking at 12+, which doesn't mean anything. Go look at 18+, or 25-54.

Oh, so you're their listener.

The Zone should bring in someone like Greg Pogue, David Boclair, Bill King, Greg Ruff, Matt Keuhn, John Merrick, Tim Swift, Bob McClellan, or even Don West in the 9-11 time slot and maybe put them on with Darren in his hour. The Zone and 560 are working together so much they should do that and lend one or two of their guys to the Zone for those shows. Darren isn't great by himself or having the lead. He is much better as the second or contributing voice. As the lead he doesn't sound confident at all.

The Predfest was a little embarrassing at times. I've not bought into the theory that the Zone has black balled Pete Weber and I didn't listen to the entire Predfest, but I didn't hear Pete Weber at all.

Give the zone time....the wake up zone is filler. Once they get the dumb DUI show off the air then they can also be a 24/7 sports FM and put the final fork in the Fan.

Yes - they should drop Fox and put James Brown (Sporting News) from 9-11 then a local show to fill non Predator nights from 7-10 and cap off the night w/ Sporting News.

Just to catch you up with items previously posted on this board:

1. The Wake-Up Zone was extended by one additional live hour, from 9-10, because it is a successful program (i.e. makes the station $$$). That gave them an extra hour they could sell as "The Wake-Up Zone." They had a waiting list of sponsors wanting to advertise on the show.

2. What is filler is the one-hour Zone Replay from 10-11. While good Zone content in replay is far better than anything Fox can dish out live, the purpose of the Replay is to fill the time between Wake-Up and Rome. The station is apparently locked into Rome through a deal made by the parent company at the corporate level, so they can't do anything locally with the time. The Zone could do a much better job filling in that time slot if it were up to them.

3. The DUI show is a sponsored show as are the builder shows on Saturday morning. Their existence does not take away from the Zone being all sports. That's judged by what the station is M-F.

4. Can't drop Fox either, although I'd rather hear SNR. The name "Fox Sports" is licensed (it's not really associated with the Fox Sports we see on TV) to the same company that syndicates Rome, and that same deal apparently means that the Zone can't dump Fox either.

5. James Brown is no longer on the time you mention, but now on SNR 12-2 CT. Tony Bruno is on SNR 8-12 CT. While I would always prefer local on the Zone at any given hour, wouldn't it be a much better day if they aired Bruno 10-12 and Brown 12-2 instead of Rome?

6. It is difficult for the Zone to build continuity for a regular program between game nights. They have access to enough coach/player shows and syndicated shows that they ought to be able to fill M-Th 7-9 if they just would so we don't have to hear Fox in those hours. Even if they have to fill in an additional hour or two those nights, you'd think they'd do it to keep from getting their listeners all torqued about it.

7. SNR is apparently still locked up by the Fan.
