Talk Now SA

There is a new online radio program about to launch in San Antonio. [I have nothing to do with it so this is not a press release.]

I don't know when it will start but it should be very soon.

The co-founders are Chris Duel and Matt Scherer. You might remember Chris from WOAI, KTSA, or KZDC.

The name of the program will be "Talk Now SA" so it will surely be a talk show. As far as I know, it will only be on the Internet.

The website is not up yet but here is the URL: http://talknowsa.com/

This is the Facebook URL: https://www.facebook.com/TalkNowSA

I found this information in the San Antonio Express News: http://blog.mysanantonio.com/matt-scherer/2012/12/the-inner-elf-in-all-of-us/

"Elf Louise came to Silver Fox Studios to tape an interview with Chris Duel yesterday. Once the lights are in place, the equipment works properly and the web site is fully functioning, Chris will host a daily show called Talk Now San Antonio from 9 a.m. to noon."

This is Chris Duel's Twitter page where I would think he would announce the start date: http://twitter.com/ChrisDuel

I really don't know any more about it but I thought I would post what I know about it just in case you want to catch the program when it starts.

There is now a test video on the "Talk Now SA" website: http://talknowsa.com/

I assume that is someone from Silver Fox Studios testing the equipment because that is not Chris Duel.

There is another test video on their Twitter page with Chris Duel testing the audio and video: http://twitter.com/TalkNowSA

It is in this tweet:
Chris Duel talks about the philosophy behind @TalkNowSA http://youtu.be/GPYt1GvY1U8
TalkNowSA Beta-Beta Test - January 14, 2013
Chris Duel talks about the philosophy behind TalkNowSA as the studio is beta-tested in early 2013

If you are a fan of Vanessa Macias (she is a local celebrity in San Antonio with some national exposure such as "Amazing Race") then you might be interested in this very informal interview with her. (If you don't know of her then you probably will not find this interesting although she is pretty cute.)

It is on that new San Antonio talk show that I mentioned above, "Talk Now SA" with Chris Duel: http://talknowsa.com/view/tnsae15/
[You have to click on the arrow in the center of the screen to start the video.]

This is the home page if you want to look at any of the other interviews or programs: http://talknowsa.com/

IMO, Talk Now SA is not technically a radio program, since it's not available in an audio-only format. I wish that it was, because I would listen to it on my wireless phone. The live video stream uses too much bandwidth for my phone to stream dependably. :(

I've watched a few of them. The interviews don't hold my interest for long enough to sit through the full hour.

I don't have any inside information but I assume that Chris started this program to keep his radio skills in tune until there is a local opening or to eventually move this program over to a local radio station. That is all speculation on my part. It might be that this program really picks up during local elections and local controversies since Chris can have anyone that he wants on his program because he knows "everybody" in San Antonio.

You directed a post to me on September 17, 2005, 09:46:53 AM in the "KTSA Program Time Changes" topic. You told me: I like Jack Riccardi's show.

Do you still listen to Jack? I don't and never did listen to Jack Riccardi except to sample it for a short time but I was a big fan of Brad Messer on KTSA (same station that Jack Riccardi was on) at that time and hated to see Brad leave. I thought all of his programs were interesting. I am a fan of local talk radio so it is getting more difficult to find anything to listen to in that category (especially anything that holds my interest). I've been listening to Dudley and Bob (KLBJ-FM Morning Show) and Todd and Don (The Todd and Don Show on KLBJ-AM) for many years.

Are there any popular local talk shows in San Antonio right now that hold your interest?

Jack's show would be about the only one left that I enjoy listening to right now, although I got out of the habit of listening to him in 2012 because he was so focused on the national election. I may catch an hour a week of his show if I'm lucky.

I wake up to WOAI, so I get a dose of Charlie Parker almost every weekday. That morning show is more political than it was 5 years ago and I dislike that about it. The Jim Forsyth segments within it are a favorite. They're evenhanded and often feature news stories that have never appeared anywhere else before.

As for the rest... IMO Trey Ware has gotten too strident about politics in the past couple of years. Joe Pags doesn't interest me for the same reason. Sean Ryma just seems unpolished and often seems to be trying to wring an hour of discussion out of yesterday's news.

I miss Brad Messer, too. It's too bad he left the city and the profession before the local NPR station ramped up its local presence. He would have been a great fit there.
