Talk Radio Expert Walter Sabo to speak at Talkers

If you're serious about succeeding in talk radio and want to learn from the very best - talk radio expert Walter Sabo will be speaking at the Talkers New Media seminar June 10 and 11 in New York City. He will be giving a special presentation entitled " Talk Radio IS a PPM format."

Somebody tell RUSH, willya?

RE "Talk Radio is a PPM Format:"

Somebody tell RUSH LIMBAUGH, whose 4th Quarter Hour is often unlistenable, because he gets-behind, then jams-in back-to-back stopsets, separated by BRIEF content, just-before the on-hour break (another stopset).

NOT an opinion: PPM punishes diary-era tricks, like those dark-side-of-the-moon AOR clocks that used to bunch-up spots in the 3rd-and-4th Quarter Hours. There's no "hiding" commercials now.

Pick an hour, any Limbaugh hour, and you'll hear what I mean.
But hey, it's not HIS problem...

For more on how-PPM-REALLY-works -- and a SURE-FIRE way to make your web site Google better -- don't miss the Talkers session just-before-lunch.

Since when does "unlistenable" threaten Limbaugh?

Either way I can't wait to see all you Gentlemen there. Hopefully one day I'll be invited to speak and discuss the similarities between a PPM analysis and a rigid anoscopy.

"Doctor! Doctor! It hurts when I do THIS..."

"Then don't do THAT!"

Whenever there's Q&A after a research data presentation, I always TRY to keep a straight face when I ask, "According to urinalysis..."

Walter Sabo should be able to explain why local talk radio in New York is almost non-existent compared to other markets, large and small. Talk stations in markets outside NY are restoring local talk programming, but WOR and WABC ignore the trend. :-\

Why so formal?

'Just a heads-up for those who'll be meeting him for the first time: He prefers "Walt."

"Walt", if memory serves correctly, is responsible for some of the least inspiring of FM talkradio attempts in the last 20 years. Instead of understanding and encouraging shows to flourish based on the strenghts of individual personalities, he favors mroe of a blanket formula where "shallow" reigns supreme.

You know come to think of it, I prefer "Xena". Holland, I think you should be "Thor."

Walter or Walt...makes no difference to me. The guy is laughable as far as I am concerned. I have seen his dog and pony show at these conventions and he always has an angle. He will repackage info that is already out there and then tell you about how great he is, what a huge success his before it's time FM format was in NJ...he will tell you about the next great talk show host, David Bachman...oh wait, that was five years ago and he went no where. Then he will tell you about how he is making money on YouTube with his internet spokespeople.. The guy is as smarmy as they come. My advice...use his session as a time to go upstairs and check your email and get some fresh air.

This.

If some of the biggest names in the biz followed Walt's typical advice, they wouldn't today be the biggest names in the biz.

Imagine cookie-cutter "personalities". Seems like an ironic phrase, doesn't it? Well, that's what Walt tries to create with his "formulas".

By the way, anybody who tries to tell you what the "next big thing" is, likely has no idea what the "next big thing" is.

If he prefers Walt, OK! I won't be there to meet him but if I were, I'd ask him the question I posted earlier about the lack of local talk programming in NYC despite a return to local in markets of all sizes. :)

I've been going to these meetings for years. Honestly, I take all predictions with a grain of salt but find them interesting. With technology nowadays, the only prediction one can make in the media is unpredictablity. The stations who don't dig their heels in the sand thinking the past is the way of the future will have a better chance at success and survival.

We did NOT rehearse this, right???

NOT just stations...YOU TOO.

It is in your PERSONAL professional interest to play by The New Rules.

So whatever-you-do DON'T miss the session just-before-lunch.

I don't know why Rush Limbaugh's show clocks are still PPM unfriendly. Over the past year I know Premiere Radio has adjusted shows like Glenn Beck, Bill Handel, Dr. Dean Edell, Dr. Laura, the entire Fox News Talk network, Fox Sports Radio, The Weekend, and possibly a few others to have 4-segmented PPM friendly clocks. Several of these show clocks used to be similar to Limbaugh's, with 5 segments, while Fox Sports' had 3 segments with breaks closer to the :20/:40 mark. Sporting News Radio still has a clock like that.

I just found out while typing this that they changed Bill Cunningham's clock a couple weeks ago. Premiere has yet to change Real Estate Today's clock, which still has 5 segments. Real Estate Today carries a lot of commercial time too, with 6:00 Network and 18:20 Local.

The network I would really like to change is Talk Radio Network's weekend clock, which is the worst ever.

Perhaps some of you enlightened individuals have heard of KFI’s highly PPM rated John and Ken, talkers Sally Jessy Raphael or Dr. Ruth? These are just a few of the household names Walter Sabo cultivated. You don’t become the youngest V.P. in the history of ABC and NBC as Walter did by accident, you have to be intelligent and savvy.

Mr. Sabo is a talk radio legend with a good ear for discovering and developing world class talent. In an over twenty year period Walter Sabo was never called spineless and worthless on the air by any radio talk show host, he’s very well respected.

Before meeting Mr. Sabo at Talkers you may want to read up on his very long and successful career. www.sabomedia.com
