(talk radio) Fill-ins, nothing more than fill-ins...

(title of post a reference to Morris Albert's 1970s soft rock hit "Feelings". Whoa, whoa, whoa feelings...)

This time of yr produces more than a few fill ins for talk hosts. Pat Desmarais has been on for Dan Rea on WBZ.
Howie had a speaking engagement last Friday and put Maria Stephanos of Fox 25 in (Maria had a bit of a scare
yesterday; turned out she was dehydrated. She's fine.)

Brian Maloney's blog SaveWRKO notes that Jay Severin's vay-cay has again brought us Grace Blazer's pal
Mike Smerconish (whom he notes made waves last year as being a conservative who endorsed Obama) and
WTKK's Michele -with-one-l McPhee has had Norman Goldman in. Listeners to the Ed Schultz show (yeah,
both of you :) ) may know him from doing occasional fill-ins for Ed. He's not quite the same political philosophy
as Michele (the progtalk fans must be excited, though I wonder how many knew he'd be on?)

When hot subjects appear, such as health care or Ted K's wish to have the gov appoint his successor, hopefully
fill in hosts are up to the task. But of course for some once we hear a different voice and sample it for a few
minutes--we may turn away in disappointment.

Of course many years ago I would be even more interested when one particular newspaper columnist would
fill in for Jerry Williams--who would have thought he'd inherit that slot eventually? "Good afternoon New England,
this is Howie Carr from the Boston Herald, in for the Dean today..."

Do you think Smerconish might be taking the gig Severin gig full time? They can't be happy with him with the suspensions and poor ratings and all...

I have to say that I find Smerconish to be pretty good, comes off as being professional and genuine. What kind of ratings does his show pull in in Philly?

it was former fox and nbc anchor Jodi Applegate in for carr. She barked like a dog, imitated Ed Sullivan, and threatened a coup to remove howie nation president dave hunt!

...and may have irritated "Sandy" by referring to her by her real name of Nancy (Shack). Or maybe Nance didn't
mind, I don't know. The guys from "the sports station down the hall" sure liked having Jodi around, it was said.

Anyone remember the incident when Jodi was on NYC TV and talking to someone about how easily a bike can be stolen when suddenly the guy went nutzo on her? "That was NOT cool, dude!," she responded. The vid was pulled off youtube after a copyright claim by myfox NY.

Oops!: Found it. 2:36 in

>>The "That's not cool" incident. There hasn't been much in the way of fallout, believe it or not. I think people had the impression that these guys were trying to hoax us. They had fake blood and stuff. We're ultimately a news program, and these guys were staging the accidental fake cutting of a guy's jugular.

it would be a good day to be live and local. MAybe she had responsibilities at the herald or getting her children back to school.

A fave of Grace Blazer who helped develop his show in Philly. For Severin fill ins they find it easy to throw him on.
In the past when WTKK would run tape delayed Hannity at 10 pm, they would just pick up Hannity live at 3...

smerc on agian today interviewing Tom Ridge, Robbins in for Graham interviewing Adam (Big Time) Clymer calling in from Logan Airport
