Talk radio: how long will it be a man's world?

Interesting comment to the effect that talk radio appeals to men because men are more interested in politics. I don't accept the premise that the medium should be all about politics. Obviously, most talk programmers do (despite what they say) and that is the major reason why "talk radio" is in such sorry shape.

I think the idea of "talk for women" is too limiting.

What about stations that would call themselves "advice talk." Heavy on financial and health talk weekdays, lots of specialty programs on the weekends, such as home fix-up, gardening, entertainment, legal matters. This would bring in a better mix of men and women, and maybe lower the average age also into somewhere in middle age instead of mostly 55+.
Perhaps combine advice talk with traffic-and-weather-heavy news blocks in morning and afternoon drive weekdays. "News and talk you can use."

The few efforts to do female-oriented talk have not been successful. If they had been given more time..maybe.<P ID="signature">______________
