Talk Radio in Tallahassee

Hello all in Florida. This week we here at WJEP just north of you in Georgia are returning to the airwaves. I know in the past that WJEP with its 10KW Daytime signal reached parts of Florida quite well despite the fact that many days they only were pushing 6KW. We are going back on and will be increasing power to eventually hit our 10KW. We will begin at 1 KW and increase from there. This we hope will all begin this Wednesday if all goes as planned. Please let us know if you can hear us, and of course if our signal is weak it is clear as a bell on our website. We hope to have our entire lineup running as right now we are still stunting with music...The telephone number at the station is 229-584-0040

Why do you respond by saying Whatever? It was a legitimate post with a legitimate purpose...

I will be checking when I get back to Tallahassee in the next week or so. I listed to Dennis Miller a bit on 106.1 when it was talk and it wasn't terribly bad....kept my interest for about 10 minutes or so of my drive.

So what is this station going to air? Their website says Dennis Miller, Veronica Tyler, and Tom Leykis along with some local stuff. Are there going to be any sports on nights or the weekends maybe when they do get the FM signal? (MLB/ESPN, NBA/ESPN, Jaguars and Marlins rights come to mind as available since 1410 and 106.1 can't/won't carry them.)

Good to see them streaming, but the website and on-air signal are a work-in-progress. Since WJEP is a Class D license, the FM simulcast will be important...but what signal will that be?

I wish them luck as Tallahassee is in real need of AM talk stations, but the signals are just not there without an FM simulcaster. This is a niche they could tap quite well, especially with Tallahassee being a city that leans a bit more left than most others in the state.

100.7 and 1270 are established Clear Channel operations, but 1450 and 106.1 have dropped out of the race.

Thank you for asking. We are rebuilding a once silent station and re-engineering a station that could do alot of good. Our main focus is to be a non political alternative source of talk entertainment. No Rush, no Beck etc. The closest thing to politics is Miller, and he is a comedian so we went that route. As for sports, no no sports here. The closest thing we have is daily Nascar and racing reports in a show called The Final Lap from United Stations. We figure if we have no politics,no sports and no religion we can take subjects that one person or another might take offense to out of the equation. We got zapped by lightning on July 31st but we are continuing to stream music as we fix other problems out here with the antiquated equipment etc. We hope to be back on the air this week as we await our backup transmitters repair which took the direct hit. Our main transmitter, the 10KW, was taken out by another hit last November. We are moving as fast as we can down here and have had to adjust to other peoples schedules as well. We are going to be making other changes here as well after the closing with the FCC which includes going to 24 hours. We have the 301 ready to be filed with the FCC which will make us 10KW Daytime and 1.5 KW nighttime as our consulting engineer has completed the study and we are within the neccessarry parameters to be as stated and still be non directional on the same stick at night. As for the FM, that we are still working on and should have some answers on shortly. Any questions call the station at 229-584-0040 or email us thru the website ...

Well, that's a perfectly understandable position. Hopefully you guys can get back on the air at 10kw and get that night signal at 1.5kw working.

Tallahassee could definitely use more talk radio especially on the AM side of the dial. I still find it odd to listen to Rush on an FM signal. The Noles on FM are necessary, but also strange to me as I am used to AM being where talk and sports dominate alongside news.

Good luck with the station and hopefully I can tune in the station in Leon County.
