Talk radio nothing more than advertising for other media?

I have been lurking for a few months...you seem like an inteligent bunch who are more-or-less insiders...What do you folks think?

Stern show: he has been warned in the past to not talk about satellite, but his show has recently become a Sirius infomercial. All they talk about is what bits they will do when they get there, even interviewing folks for jobs on other Sirius channels he will produce.

Hannity: basically 3 hours of "tonight on Hannity and Colmes", and providing a warm-up forum for his TV guests.

O'Reilly: primarily an infomercial for his books, TV show, webpage, and merchandise. He plays tapes of his TV show on the radio show!

Is this where radio is going - a place to tell you to watch/listen/read something else/somewhere else?

It's definitely true for those that have something to sell other than advertising the sponsors.

Savage has three best-sellers, which he plugs all the time. Any host will plug their book if given the chance (Howie, Laura, Rush, Hannity, etc), as well as their web sites. Some of the hosts like O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham take it a step further by advertising their pay sites.

Big Eddie Schultz used to plug his book a lot when he first started but he doesn't do it as much, lately...

Untrue about Stern while he probably has been warned not to talk about Sat, what can they possbily do to him? take him off the air thereby heightening the interest in what he has to say when he does debut on Sirius?. Plus the show has been better of late than it has been in years, when every other caller remarks about "eh eh eh" and how they've gotten their radios etc and are anticipating the move? well there is not much else that he can do. Dump every other caller? what's the point? the news is so part of the public conscious at this point that he's not selling any more radios he's not telling anyone they dont already know, it's just become part of his schtick.

Your expectations are too high.
