Talk Radio Scoreboard for Large Markets: March 2014

The experiment to put Rush on new Clear Channel Conservative Talk stations in three of the four largest markets has had so-so results. WOR New York, KEIB Los Angeles and KNEW San Francisco haven't seen much ratings growth since Rush's debut on Jan. 2. But we know that Talk Radio audiences are slow to change, so the jury is still out whether this was a good move for Clear Channel. And WOR is still without a regular morning show after its brief experiment with using a Rock station morning show from Washington, Elliot in the Morning. I've decided to include Rush's LA and SF stations in the scoreboard, even if they're not getting a one-rating yet.

WSB Atlanta stayed at #1 and honorable mention goes to WJR Detroit (Cumulus) which moved up to #4. Also in the top 10 in their markets are KFI, WGN, KTRH and WMAL.

1. New York...WABC (Cumulus) #16 tie ... WOR (Clear Channel) #22
2. Los Angeles...KFI (Clear Channel) #9 ... KABC (Cumulus) #35 tie ... KEIB (Clear Channel) #37
3. Chicago...WGN (Tribune) #8 ... WLS (Cumulus) #19 tie
4. San Francisco...KSFO (Cumulus) #18 tie ... KKSF (Clear Channel) #25 tie ... KNEW (Clear Channel) #27
5. Dallas...WBAP (Cumulus) #19 tie
6. Houston...KRTH (Clear Channel) #8
7. Washington...WMAL-AM-FM (Cumulus) #9
8. Philadelphia...WPHT (CBS) #17
9. Atlanta...WSB/WSBB(FM) (Cox) #1
10. Boston...WRKO (Entercom) #14

I only include commercial Talk stations that scored at least a one rating, except for heritage Talk outlet KABC and Rush's LA and SF outlets, KEIB and KNEW.
