Talk Radio Scoreboard for Large Markets: May 2014

May saw a significant drop for Cumulus' WABC, which only a few years ago was in the top 10 in New York. This time it's tied for #22 with Clear Channel competitor WOR. Among American Talk stations, only WOR had a cume over one million, thanks no doubt to sports fans tuning in for Mets broadcasts, even if it didn't mean much in WOR's overall ratings. KFI fell out of the Los Angeles top 10, with a cume down to around 700 thousand. In the plus column, WSB again finished on top of the Atlanta ratings. And in Market #11, Cumulus' WJR Detroit was at #6.

1. New York...WABC (Cumulus) #22 tie ... WOR (Clear Channel) #22 tie
2. Los Angeles...KFI (Clear Channel) #13 tie ... KEIB (Clear Channel) #38*... KABC (Cumulus) #39 tie*
3. Chicago...WGN (Tribune) #4 ... WLS (Cumulus) #22 tie
4. San Francisco...KSFO (Cumulus) #20 tie ... KKSF (Clear Channel) #26 ... KNEW (Clear Channel) #28 tie*
5. Dallas...WBAP (Cumulus) #19 tie
6. Houston...KRTH (Clear Channel) #15
7. Washington...WMAL-AM-FM (Cumulus) #14
8. Philadelphia...WPHT (CBS) #19 tie
9. Atlanta...WSB/WSBB(FM) (Cox) #1
10. Boston...WRKO (Entercom) #15

* I only include commercial Talk stations that scored at least a one rating, except for heritage Talk outlet KABC and Rush's LA and SF outlets, KEIB and KNEW.

By the way, I noticed only two large market Talk stations made the top 10 this time around... WSB Atlanta, #1, and WGN Chicago, #4. And as I mentioned in my original post, WJR Detroit is #6 in Market #11. Everyone else is out of the top 10 in their city, even KFI LA and KTRH Houston, which are usually top 10 stations.
