Talk Radio Scoreboard for Major Markets: September 2014

Several Talk Radio stations saw their ratings improve as the summer ended. In the ten major markets, KFI Los Angeles, KTRH Houston and WMAL Washington all made the top ten, with WSB Atlanta returning once again to #1. WGN Chicago and WRKO Boston came close, finishing at #11.

If you look at the next five markets, Talk stations made the top ten in each. Spanish Talk WAQI Miami is #9, WJR Detroit is tied for #7, KIRO-FM Seattle is tied for #4, KFYI Phoenix is #6 and Spanish Talk WKAQ Puerto Rico is #3. It's the first time WAQI has been in the top ten in Miami in years.

The experiment to put all of iHeart's syndicated Talk hosts on one station in San Francisco is coming to an end. Rush, Beck and Hannity are moving to Cumulus-owned KSFO (I thought Hannity vowed never to be on a Cumulus station?) as KNEW becomes a Bloomberg Business News affiliate.

Maybe this should be "Right-wing Talk Radio Scoreboard."
Or "Commercial Talk Radio Scoreboard."
Or "Commercial Right-wing Talk Radio Scoreboard."
But it sure ain't the "Talk Radio Scoreboard" with so much of talk radio being deliberately omitted. And Rush being deliberately included.

Setting aside that these "beauty contest" numbers mean nothing anyway.
 
And yet you feel compelled to comment on them every month despite that they 'mean nothing'.

Provide an example of a talk formatted station in those markets with a 1 share that Gregg failed to include, or feel free to compile a Public Scoreboard and put it in the appropriate forum.

I think it's significant that WOR surpassed WABC in NY for the first time since the big shift last year. It's the most visible impact of Cumulus business decision last year to reshuffle their talk lineups, and the result seems to validate that Premiere needed Cumulus less than Cumulus needed Premiere.
 
I get it. You and Gregg are right-wingers and you think the Church of the Dittoheads is one true faith and the only one that should ever be considered.

You may think those numbers are "significant." Doesn't mean they are? What were the billings of those two stations and how did they change in the past year? What are the audience numbers for each in the money demos and how have those shifted (if at all) in the past year? How are overall AQH numbers weighted to give greater impact to certain dayparts? To what extent have audience numbers for specific dayparts changed in the past year (if at all)? What is the total audience erosion of these two stations as a result of these changes? These are the real questions and those numbers don't provide a clue.

And "business decisions" are only "validated" by three things: Revenue. Revenue. Revenue.

An example of talk stations in those markets with over a 1. share: Oh, let's see. Off the top of my head. WNYC. KPCC. WBEZ. KQED. WAMU, WHYY, WBUR, WGBH.... How many do you need?
