Talk radio screening and 'BANG THE KNEE'

I am a big Matt Allen fan. So I'm calling about something that just happened on his show.
I listen to Helen Glover, Matt, Tony Farr, (when he's on) Dan Yorke.
For the last 2 weeks EVERY SHOW, these shows are being 'cranked' by a caller.
Seems he calls on a serious note and then, all of a sudden says, "BANG A DA KNEE, CA BEECHZ"
I think I'm jealous, because it is funny.
Is it not possible to screen this guy, or why don't they DUMP him.
Any Board Opps, Screeners, or Producers want to respond?

Ion the Comic.

When I was a teenager I did that stupid stuff every once in a while. But then I developed it into a character called Darryl B that actually became a regular character on the Paul Perry Show (WHJJ). Of course I ripped the character off from the Soupy Sales show on WNBC. But nobody seemed to care. I was just a goofy kid. Fun stuff!

Actually, call screening has gotten more sophisticated at most stations and networks, thanks to innovations like caller ID. The cranks have been mostly weeded out, and that's a shame in a way. Most cranks started as teens or young adults, and crank callers often developed into personalities on their own. Tampa's Lionel is the best example of this. He had several voices in addition to his "Lionel" character, including a redneck named "Lud", whose favorite line was "tie 'em up, set 'em on fire."

I doubt the "cult of the host" as practiced by Limbaugh would have evolved as successfully if ordinary callers could get through and deliver some nonsense about Prince Albert in a can. The cranks of 1970's and 1980's talk radio did a good job puncturing the egos of self-important hosts. Talk radio takes itself WAY too seriously and could use a few disruptive influences to save itself from itself.

Please, less call screening. More cranks (and more creative cranks).

If I had my own talk show then there would not even be a call screener. I'm all about going with the flow. Throw any call at me. I'll handle it just fine.......... even if it is a crank call. I think that spontanaity would make for a fun show.

yeah every now and then you'd hear some crazy loon get past the screeners. but at whjj, the producer is the screener. they dont have an actual call screener like wpro does. they are too cheap. so while the producer is reasearching, trying to track down guests, monitoring the competition, watching the tv for breaking news. it's easy to understand how a crank caller gets by every once in a while espcially over at whjj...
