Talk Radio Trend

In today's talk trend, WGST goes down despite the Braves. Not a big surprise because of the the huge hole in mid-days and the Regular Guys debacle.

790 the Zone continues to dominate 680 the Fan.

WGKA does not show up again but liberal talk, Air America shows improvement for the second straigh trend.

WSB continues to dominate everyone.

Someone from Clear Channel pointed out to me this morning that WKLS edged out WSB in Adults 25-54 at night, 4.9-4.7. But overall, losing baseball hasn't hurt WSB at all, at least up to now.

Since I can only see 12 plus, it' hard to imagine 790 or 680 dominating anyone with their small overall shares. I guess this would be the last trend that 790 had prior to making their lineup changes. It will be interesting to see how things come down in future trends..

Viva keeps falling, hard to say where it will settle, down to 14th place in 12-plus. Praise appears to be bouncing back. Tight race among the AC stations. WSB is stable. V-103 is solid No. 2. 99X had a solid trend while Dave had a weak one. Too early to say about the Regular Guys or the Buzz and other changes, since they only represented about three weeks so far.

Obviously, the poor nighttime signal for WGST can't help matters, even with the Braves, as well as the back-up FM signal at 96 Rock for the night games.

It's only a matter of time before 680 finds a new format, and Atlanta becomes the nation's largest market minus ESPN Radio.

Very surprising, especially considering Air America has only been on the air for more than a year, and its Atlanta affiliate, WWAA, is broadacsting on an extended band AM frequency, 1690.

> WSB continues to dominate everyone.

No surprise there. With the powerful signal that it has, covering all of metro Atlanta, and beyond, WSB will likely sit at or near the top of the charts in Atlanta for years to come.

Maybe it's because there are too many talk stations in Atlanta to begin with. Counting the sports stations, you have 640, 680, 750, 790, 920, 970, 1340, 1380, 1690, etc. When you have that many stations doing talk radio, there's no way even one of those stations, aside from WSB maybe, will even show up in the Arbitron book, much less show up in the top ten.

Having said that, hopefully the boost in daytime power to 14,000 watts will at least help WGKA show up in the Arbitron book. Still, for a company to spend that much money for a station, only to have virtually no listeners, is appalling.

I don't think there's a Salem talk station in the country - at least not in any market of decent size - that's doing well in the ratings. They've got second rate talent and they don't even make an attempt at localizing their content.

They jumped on the conservative radio bandwagon a little late, I"m afraid.
