I'm glad this thread it titled 'Talk Radio' as that is exactly what WILK is; they call themselves 'newsradio' but how much 'news' is actually on the station as opposed to opinionated 'talk.' Back in its heyday 590 WARM did local news twice an hour all day, and correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't WVIA-FM actually do more news than WILK? The only news station in NEPA I've ever known was WBRE 98 FM/1-3-4 AM when they used NBCs News and Information Service (NIS). Hell, WKRZ-AM 1340 was the next closest to a 'newsradio' format in the early 80s when they did All News 6a - 9a; Noon - 1pm, and 4p - 6pm, and had a news staff of at least five: Carol Gibbons (ND/PM FM Anchor), Bud Brown (Morning Anchor/Luzerne County reporter), Jerry Padden (Lackawanna County Reporter), Marla Howells (reporter), Jay Daniels (AM/PM news block anchor).
WILK newsradio? Far from it. It is just like WTRW talk but with better market coverage via 3 AMs and 1 FM, and some local 'talk' shows.
Why is 'talk' these days referred to as 'news?'
1060 KYW: News; 1010 WINS: News; 880 WCBS: News; 101.9 WEMP: News.
WILK: Talk.
