Talk Radio

Why cannot there be a station in Mass, like WPRO all local Talk Hosts, all great topics, national ,state and international??

During all severe storms, winter and summer we are in southeastern Mass, and were kept informed live round the clock.

For a time WTKK was local quite a bit of the time, 7 am to 10 pm or so; RKO also had many local slots and quality of hosts, depends on your opinion. RKO would do things like pre-empt their syndie 7 pm show to bring Moe Lauzier in to talk about a big blizzard. Now TKK is gone RKO pretty much only has Kuhner and Howie (some local biz stuff) and there are sporadic local shows on WGBH and WBZ..and Michael Graham.
Local issues, emergency info (WBZ news does get into that a bit)..
Fallen to the wayside due to poor ratings and tough times

Maybe the closest thing to live and local issues (and sports) all day is only on your smartphone or computer with Boston Herald Radio.

(Some small local stations do local issues; at WMWM we interviewed a couple Beverly candidates recently.)

Because it's Entercom. I don't think Entercom has any long term plans to extend the life for WRKO.

They are basically milking it dry....trying to keep the cow alive till they can get as much milk out of it as possible.

Right re: Entercom, which has also done such things as making 850 ESPN only (make a bit of $ for carrying it) and switching the prog talk of WWKB 1520 Buffalo to ESPN & other sports stuff (more $, whatever there is, for sports not poli. talk). Don't know what else RKO
could do though technically they are the only all-talk station in town--with, really, just two local shows daily (not counting the brokered
financial). Heck, had it not been for Clear Channel, RKO could have wound up as "Bloomberg 680" though they may make some
money with the talk format. Maybe not as much as before.

btw with the election tonight, expect coverage/talk about it on WBZ, WBUR, WGBH, and WRKO (the latter 3 maybe only in
small doses if at all...RKO headlines maybe! The smartphone/comp. only (streaming) Boston Herald Radio (at BH site and on tunein.com ) promises
coverage post 6 pm, and I'd think the Globe's radioboston dot com would also do a bit of coverage linked as it is to the
paper.
I saw something on the Globe's site--a 30 sec video that had one of their writers basically reading a news story. No
interviews or outside video, just the writer reading the story. At least we are seeing the papers in town doing a web
presence with video or audio.

This is either the most blatant troll in the history of the boards, or someone has a eight-grade media class project due by Thursday.

Peter Smyth the 'great white head' of Greater Media has turned out to be no great friend of local broadcasting. Last year he spoke on the importance of live local talk and how important it was and how his stations in New Jersey served the community after hurricane Sandy. Less than a month after that speech he dumps WTKK for more bump and grind radio. How is thar serving this community. Philistines all !

At least we have WGBH Radio 89.7 but some in commercial radio- like ex- employers - are already attempting to sabotage its current success with programs like Bosto Public Radio radio with Jim Braude and Margery Egan - ex of Greater Media's WTKK.
