Talk Radio

I'm surprised the format pioneered by Joe Pyne, Bob Grant & others has lasted this long.
the format likely would have died if not for Limbaugh & his clones. but, I think
it willl be on far fewer stations in the future as many people no longer have the time or
patience to listen to talk radio. I doubt putting younger talk hosts on the air willl do much
to save the format long--term.

I was never in a location where I could hear Bob Grant.... but Joe Pyne, yes.

In my mind I have never connected the Rush Limbaugh style with the Joe Pyne style.

Changes in legal issues like the Fairness Doctrine made it possible for Rush to create a style of show that was out of grasp for Joe Pyne.

Also, in addition to the legal issues, the public attitudes in America changed. Had Rush come along 10 or 15 years earlier there might have been some interesting push-back against his style and content.

Jimmy:

its not because it's a failing format...it's because the kids today are just stupid and clueless, and have no interest in doing the work required to be a good radio show host.

I cant find qualified people to host radio shows in New York city.

First off most people today have very poor internet skills, because they are always on their Iphone.....and the amount of homework involved turns people into girliemen real fast.

The eternal dreamer.... I had hoped this might turn into a stimulating, intelligent conversation!!

Every generation has some over-achievers and some under-achievers. Maybe you are hanging out in the wrong places. I see some of todays "kids" demonstrating knowledge and awareness that I wish I could have had at that age.

Radio shows... the kind with a transmitter and a paycheck?

Or Internet shows... the kind that pay nothing but tease people with the possibility this may turn into something really big... IF you have what it takes to do what virtually no one else is able to do. Yeah, I see those listings in Craig's List in cities all across the country. "Looking for Talk Show Talent. No immediate pay but great opportunity."

... homework turns people into girliemen real fast???? You may have to explain that one to me.

If your interviews and contact with prospects is as sexist and anti-social as that crack... I can see why anyone capable of doing a talk show might turn tail and run for the nearest unlocked exit.

I suspect I could wander out into these relatively low-density acres of Appalachia and find young people capable of doing 'Talk Programming' (with a bit of suitable training). But in the huddled, crowded, living-on-top-of-each-other masses of NYC you can find no capable people? Hoss, it's back to the drawing board time. Stop off at the bathroom on the way to the drawing board, and take a good look in the mirror. At that point we may hear you muttering something like "Oh, I just found the problem!!!"

Cowboy:

Yes people run off like girliemen when they realize you have to do your homework and yes pay for it too.........most are so clueless they have no idea you could actually use the internet and do radio shows for free...abit its terrible quality......its the extremely poor educational system....so here is what i tell everyone:

Everyone who is on Radio or TV has paid to be on the air. Some paid $100,000+ to get a college degree and work at the college radio or TV station, some paid $10,000 to go to Broadcasting School, some spend years being an intern. We offer a pay as you go plan. Lots of people have a business and it becomes a tax deduction. Also you can sell ads, get sponsors.

And if you feel like you are just not cut out for being a Radio Host, then there is no more monetary obligation unlike signing up for a school.

PS:

I have received 30+ resumes from people who have a communications degree yet never stepped foot into their college radio station...yes no kidding....some didn't even know there was one on campus.....all that debt and stupid as crap.

And everyone says they have some experience yet only 4 people send me any proof....where are your podcasts?

You see Cowboy Im looking for people who want to be like this...I booked her on a radio show and she was only 20 the host was 50+...now shes all of 22 http://chelseakrost.com/
