Talk Show Host Shot

KVOC Sports Director, Christopher Thompson, was shot twice on Friday morning as he was preparing to leave his car and go to work at the station in Columbia, SC.
"The State," Columbia's daily newspaper reports that Richland County sheriff’s spokesman Chris Cowan, Thompson says that the shooting was "an appparent robbery. However, Thompson went on the say, in the article, that it was unknown whether anything was taken and went to say “I don’t think he or the business was targeted.”

Thompson is recovering in an area hospital.

No other details on the matter have been reported since Friday.

Interestingly, the Radio Insider's reported that, according to Columbia police, it "was a random shooting." (whatever, that means.)

In this day an age when talk show hosts are occasionally attacked by angry listeners, it would be helpful if we could get a more definitive account of what actually happened to Thompson, who host an AM local sports show on KVOC.

Is it not possible that he was just at the wrong place, wrong time..which is a "random" event, thus "random shooting"? Or is your position that he was targeted, no matter what?
______________

I am a former news reporter and if a police source told me that a shooting was possibly a "random event" my conclusion would be that more investigating needs to be done.

Good point, however since further investigating should be done, you cannot yet conclude that he was targetted, right? And since it is early in the investigation, they would not want the perp to know what info they may have about him/her. So, a "random event" explaination is the better answer for the public, right? I can live with that kind of answer while the police do their job. Why do we need to know EVERY little detail as it happens and have the perp get away, because the police were releasing information that let's the perp know they are close to catching him/her.
______________

Do you really think the Police Dept in Columbia, SC or some perp down there cares what is posted on the Radio/info board?

What are you talking about? I'm speaking in GENERAL terms, not Radio-Info specific. Why is it I have to go into a great detailed explaination with you? How exausting. Next time try to think beyond your screen, you'll save us some bandwidth.

Before you answert that question, isn't it kind of silly to reflexively use "him/her" in this context? Do you think a female perp would be offended by the use of "him" alone? Or even care?

Political correctness gone amuck!
