What's the verdict on Imus coming to early morning KABC? Will he return to KCAA? (Speaking of which, seems to me the city-grade signal of that station would be better suited for something other than talk. San Bernardino, Colton, Rialto... )

Word on the street is that Mancow is poised to return to an LA FM sometime in Q1 '08. Any ideas?

Also, Phil Hendrie never showed up on 830 despite their trumpeting of such. I think KTLK was one of several looking at the show but I don't think it fits in seeing that he is doing more conservative talk. Who else is looking at him?
 
I was just wondering the same thing myself about Imus. His show is set to run live 3-7am Pacific Time. Does this mean the I-Man gets only 2 hours in L.A.? Given the money and hype Citadel has put into Imus' return, I really doubt it. I'm afraid if he's kept at all "McIntyire in the Morning" will be the one reduced to two hours come Monday. We shall see.

Mancow???.....hmmmmm........I suppose Adam Carolla could be getting a pink slip sometime soon. Can't really think of any other FM's that would be interested.

I'm sure the I-man's handlers want him showcased in the #2 market, for all the usual reasons. Plus, Imus has a history in Southern California; it's hard to imagine him not in a very prominent position.

While KABC may not be the highest rated talk station they could not improve their position with Imus. If he does get placed there it would be more a corporate appeasement decision rather than a move for bigger numbers. I watched his show when it was on MSNBC. I always wondered if they had those monitors like in an ICU to be sure he was still breathing.

There is no way he could ever erode the Handel audience and for those who don't like Bill there are a plethora of more significantly entertaining and informative alternatives in the LA Market. Apparently KCAA did well with Imus and would likely love to get him back, but he's on a new network with new goals. The fact that the only Southern California station to have him before was KCAA should quite clearly indicate his relevance to Los Angeles and Southern California.

WHAT SoCal history other than his continuing "feud" with Robert W Morgan ;)

As to the station previous to KCAA was AM 830 KPLS (KLAA today) I'm sure you meant them... but point taken as KLAA continues to search for ANY numbers. Will be interesting to see if the Angels broadcasts next year will have ANY impact on #s for them.

Question - what was the "feud" (in quotes) between Imus and RWM? I assume from the quotes and the winking happy face that it wasn't a real feud.

I've read in the past only that Imus considered Morgan an idol, if not a mentor.

I don't know if Imus had a big audience in LA in the past - doesn't sound like it. The best he has done in the SF Bay Area is a low rated stay on a failed FM talk station in the mid 1990s. Since then, the best he could do was a low-watt daytime AM station out of Vallejo.

Though there was very brief speculation about his being on a Bay Area Citadel station this time around, general consensus is that Citadel would be crazy to put his program on either KGO or sister station KSFO.
 
Lew, what I remember about Imus in his W-NNNNN-BC days was his constant jibes about RWM as he made it sound like they were rivals like the Yankees vs the Dodgers, East Coast vs West Coast. You are correct about the idol-mentor thing. In my garage I have some cassettes of airchecks of Imus on WNBC that I'll have to dig out someday. Dr Billy Sol Hargus and other characters. He also had a DJ in Dallas (?) forgot his name who did great imitations of Nixon, Kissinger etc as he was interviewed on the phone by Imus. Really funny stuff for those days.

I actually meant his most recent station, however a move from KLAA (nee KPLS) to KCAA only further underlines the point. At least now they, KLAA, are making a more serious attempt, so they are more likely to stick with Glenn Beck than jump to Imus. I guess the final outcome will be determined whether internal politics at Citadel will give us Imus on KABC, which I still maintain from a ratings standpoint would not be a smart move.
 
KLAA has Beck now which is a much better move. KCAA could have Imus back if they want to; I believe they bartered him before, which is believable considering how CBS/WW1 bungles their network shows. KCAA would probably have to pay a grand and change a month now. Still worth it, but we'll have to see.
