Talk1017.com

... is redirecting to Talk1200.com.

Things that make you go, hmmm...

Could be the format they intend to do, or they're parking it there...
--1200 and 101.7 cons talk simulcast
--101.7 cons talk, 1200 something ele (fox sports? libtalk? spanish? Or 101.7 libtalk...?but redir to 1200 for noe?

or 101.7 something else but redir to 1200 site to throw people off?
Note page headline says Talk 101.7 Express Yourself

A .com these days costs almost nothing. What does the ownership of the address say? Domains by Proxy perhaps?

Only way would be to simulcast with 1200--reaching suburbs, etc. with 101.7 reaching the city/
commuters/younger listeners who prefer FM. Even then it'd be risky. So what goes on it--
Spanish? Libtalk? Fox Sports? What about a Mike/Jack/whatever station (worked for Ent.)
I can't see them going country to compete against KLB, not with the signal range.

What if they moved xmtr back to Medford or something..wasn't 101.7 up around there or
Malden? At least gets a bit further into suburbs...

I just don't see how it makes any business sense to go conservative talk on that signal.

I agree.

In addition, if the plan all along has been to go talk on 101.7 FM, wouldn't it have made sense to put out a press release and run promos on 1200 AM promoting the upcoming big move?

Oldies or classic rock would be nice but apparently you can't sell a demo that buys stuff to advertisers.

Liberal talk might be worth trying since you could lay a foundation with Dial Global's Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz and build from there. The debate would rage about whether it would get ratings. Could you sell that audience to advertisers? Would the station be properly promoted? Would the fact the Stephanie is simulcasting on Current TV make it less appealing? WWZN is no basis to judge the success of liberal talk because it has both signal and other disadvantages. The cc progressive talk on the old WKOX at 1200 is also no basis to judge because it could have had better promotion and the better signal 1200 now has.

Unfortunately, the most logical decision would be to simulcast 1200 conservative talk with little marginal cost. The question is whether they get a lot of additional listeners "Rush"-ing to tune in? Then, does 1200 stay conservative talk?

LOL, I find this very amusing! This might be the real thing, or it could be someone that did it as a joke under a private registration. See this post I made right here on the Boston board on June 20th:

I was also just thinking... it would have been extremely amusing to register talk1017.com under a private registration so that you cannot see the owner, then to setup hosting placing a Photoshopped logo of Talk 1200 to say Talk 101.7 Boston and put "Coming Soon" under it. I ruined it now, but it would have been fun to watch all the speculation on here after someone found it. :)

Not sure if anyone noticed, but going to talk1017.com shows "Talk 101.7 Boston - Express Yourself" as the page's title. The page source is simply a frame that shows Talk 1200's site, so I think someone took my post and ran with it as a joke... but I could be wrong :)

Unfortunately, CC's idea of "logical decisions" usually involve "little marginal cost."

btw I bought the version 2.0 of the Insignia HD portable and it looks like WXKS AM is indeed back on the HD2 of 107.9. Reception good on several local extra signals but there are cutouts. I do like the buttons on the bottom the switch back and forth between the HD1, HD2, HD3 signals etc.
For awhile Talk 1200 mentioned "107.9 HD2 is the FM home for Talk 1200" but I don't think they do anymore (maybe on air once in awhile...not on the site from what I can see)
