talkcity rocks

excuuuuuuuse me...Mary Jane's show was only briefly pre-empting any Randi whom I love.mary jane is live from 6-7!!!!!!! and has been working at night since she was a tiny girl.

My show expands to three hours 3-5 and for that I'm very thankful. All the liberal hosts that my boss has inked are earning better ratings than most AAR hosts and they are flaming lefties..You are gonna love them ..if that's your drift.

Sorry to hear that Katherine Lanpher has quit Franken show. sorry to hear tht Philadelphia affiliate dropped Air America.

For those of us who have done liberal talk long before Air America Radio(myself as the lone left voice on KFBK more than a decade ago)Bernie Ward, Ray Taliaferro and a small number of others...we can't help but he delighted that there will be MORE irreverent and provocative political radio in Sacramento.

Don't lecture Paula about trying to keep air america from wanting a "bigger" corporate signal. KSAC is locally owned and operated and is going to bring you some top quality new progressive voices..Be progressive yourself and participate in the fare of the first and as yet only progressive talk station in sacramento. Christine Craft KSAC www.1240talkcity.com streams 3-6PDT weekdays

Christine,

Again, welcome to the board.

I brought up that move of Mary Jane's show into the last hour of Randi Rhodes' time slot because some of Randi's more rabid fans weren't all that thrilled about it, and thought that KSAC didn't handle that situation well. As you note, she was moved back to evenings shortly thereafter, so it didn't last long. But it did concern some folks, particularly since Mary Jane's show isn't exactly in the same vein as Randi's (or even yours).

I think some of the expectations were too high, among liberal talk fans in that market. When then-KSQR raised itself from the dead, it returned with the 24/7 AAR feed, because it was just plugged into the satellite at that point. This, of course, is before you started your show.

I think that start conditioned some of these folks to expect 1240 as a full-time liberal talk station (at the time, with mostly AAR supplying that content), and they were confused when stuff like Mary Jane's show and the weekend blues programming started showing up. As I mentioned, their "wants"/view of the station differed from Paula's, and she owns the place, so guess who wins? :D

That all said, your station does (IMHO) have a mostly stronger lineup after the change. Having the entertaining Stephanie Miller in morning drive will help your station immensely, and "Big Eddie" is a big name in the liberal talk game. And it's nice to see that Ms. Nelson-Redfield is doing the smart thing, by moving you up to 3 PM, directly after Mr. Schultz. That brief decision to put Mary Jane on at 3 was disruptive to the flow of the format, as I'm sure you know as a talk radio professional of some note...

And yes, I'm well aware of your history as a left-leaning host, and I've heard you many times on KGO/810...I wasn't in the market when you worked at KFBK. If you're naming local liberal talk hosts who've toiled for years, don't forget Enid Goldstein, who worked at KSTE/650 before it was merged into KFBK (and still did some fill in work on Ethan Way until moving to Denver to take a job there).

Best wishes to you and continued success for your show. Having you in the lineup is probably the best decision Ms. Nelson-Redfield has made with that station.

Heck, I remember Christine as the anchor at KEYT/3 Santa Barbara, having grown up in Ventura and worked in radio in both markets up until 1989. And I thought she was pretty damned talented then, too.<P ID="signature">______________

Of course, she launched into talk radio in Sacramento, after a stint at then-KRBK/31, her first TV gig since her world famous run-in with certain sexist and shortsighted TV management types in Kansas City.

I'm not even going to try to reference it, as I'm sure she'd be able to comment much better, but she ended up landing out of it, professionally, rather well.
