Talker Prank Riles Dems during AL special election

This is a classic radio prank, just some goofing off within the walls of Cumulus...and people should take it as just that. Using the official state seal was probobly not a great idea.....however, I expect WVNN to come out of this just fine. It'll do nothing but boost ratings for Dale. If for some reason I'm wrong on this....wow the politics in our justice system.

I don't see any reason tis is taken as serious as it is, Dylan was correct on it being a bad idea using the state seal, but voters are supposed to be educated, and morning shows are supposed to be funny. I remember getting emails last year saying that McCain voters were to vote on Nov 4, and Obama voters Nov 5. I doubt that any listeners of Dale's show were affected, likely most of them voted for Sanford anyway. If someone took this seriously, its their own fault for believing everything they hear on the radio.

If it's found to be a violation of federal laws, it's MORE than just a dumb radio prank.

Radio stations have been getting in trouble (i.e., sued successfully) over stupid April Fool's-like prank contests way less important than this. If there's audio evidence of Dale Jackson giving the false info on the air without reasonable clarification that he's joking, he could be in some real trouble.

It could still be reasonably argued that Jackson took the prank too far. The article notes that he chided a caller for being taken in by the prank the same day, but what if someone only heard the first part, the actual reading of the release?(And with apologies to the Dallas Cowboys running back, I'm sure there's more than one 'Marion Barber' on this earth--there's definitely more than one Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson.)

There's no way to determine if all of Jackson's listeners heard all of the pertinent 'tips' that this was a joke, and that's the danger in doing practical jokes like these. This isn't the same as telling listeners that there will be a black helicopter dropping piles of money at Legion Field on April 1st.

This kinda reminds me of an incident about 6 years ago in South Florida. The morning program hostson "El Zol" 95.7 in Miami were able to lie their way into calling Fidel Castro over the air, posing as something I can't remember exactly, but they did stir a lot of worms with their prank. :D

It would be one thing if WVNN had reported this during hard news at the top or bottom of an hour, or it was on a hard news section of there website...but it wasn't. Dale is not an anchor nor reporter...he's a commentator...a entertainer...and it should be taken as just that.

His real sentence is he works for Crumulus. They can save on payroll and get publicity. Sad that any of us on this board
have become so scared to make a damn joke in this country.

Many of the folks arrested each year for calling in bomb threats claim they were just joking too. I guess the efforts in making such behavior punishable was an overreaction to political correctness, also. ::)

Pardon me for being a fatalist for a moment, but… As people are smart enough to know the difference. Like how everyone says Fox News is biased towards the right. The actual news segements are neutral, it's the frothing at the mouth opinionators who are biased right. But people aren't smart enough to separate opinion from news reporting.

I think this is a pretty simple situation. If Jackson broke some law by using the state seal of Alabama, then he should be punished accordingly. Otherwise, it was a joke aimed at conservatives at the expense of liberals — like that never would happen otherwise. ::)

If it is found that anyone voting Democrat fell for this scheme, they should have their voting rights taken away because they're obviously too stupid to be casting votes in the first place.

I DEFINATELY AGREE... ENOUGH SAID. I'm not trying to get in to politics or anything (although I enjoy politics) on this board, Its a morning show... Yes I do watch Fox news Channel but I vote on values, not party. In fact, I helped place campaign signs across the state for a Dem here in Cullman County, even though in many cases I end up voting Republican.

As I said earlier, Voters are supposed to be educated, and morning shows are supposed to be funny. :)
