TALKERS 250 - 2008

I usually get mine at the end of the month.

You mean like almost two weeks ago? Wow, someone at my post office must be on drugs or something.

No, two weeks from now.

I think Stephanie Miller should be higher on that list, but I do love that Ed Schultz made the top ten. Last year I think he made the top five. They are the best two liberal talk hosts IMO. I don't believe I have ever heard Mike Gallagher before, maybe I should listen sometime.

Bill Press (#96) is described as a "Texas conservative heard in syndication." He's heard in syndication all right (Jones), but the last time I looked he was a D.C. liberal who was once the chairman of the California Democratic party.

No, you shouldn't.

I'm afraid it's too late...

Not to worry though, I won't ever waste three minutes of my life like that again!

Hmm, that is odd! I wonder if they mixed up descriptions? Maybe some ultra-conservative high up on the list has ended up Press' description?  :D

Another example of why whatever Talkers says should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Still another example: ranking Lionel nine places above Randi Rhodes.

And you'll notice that among the top ten (with the exceptions of Imus and Schultz), there ain't a dime's worth of difference in the topic selections or opinions of the bunch'a them...

...and yet anoter two: (a) Opie & Anthony way further up the list from Tom Leykis (at least Leykis can still get listeners in Los Angeles and Dallas, while O&A are barely holding onto a Boston terrestrial signal), and (b) Mike Malloy not even in the Top 100 (he was always in that 100 when he was on WLS, but now that he's on in four of the top five markets in the country, he's suddenly an also-ran? Bullspit to that noise)...

Probably had more listeners at WLS.

Yes, Malloy surely did have more listeners at 'LS than the lukewarm clearances he has on the bottom rung stations of his major and large markets. Live on KTLK is decent and KKGN shuffles the lineup so often it's hard to keep track, but the rest are pretty bad.

Yes, that's a strange one considering that Randi is on more than three times as many stations as Lionel.

http://talkingradio.blogspot.com/2008/02/randi-rhodes-looses-weight-in-talkers.html#links

And Lionel isn't on live anywhere of significance outside of NYC. Those guys must be paying him a boatload for him to leave a heritage (dinosaur) like WOR, as well as the weekend show he did which cleared a bunch of stations he'd never clear M-F.

I was befuddled by Gallagher's inclusion in the top ten. He is losing affiliates and has quickly become a tier two near tier three talker. Boortz, O'Reilly and Ramsey should all have easily been above Gallagher.

I also found Imus's insertion in the Top 10 a bit odd...yes he has has a tumultuous 18 months but outside of NYC who listens to the guy?

All of this is true.

I have a question though: Was O'Reilly's biggest mistake trying to take on Limbaugh and not Hannity?
