Talkers: CBS to split WXYT-AM, FM: AM 1270 to talk

http://talkers.com/online/

>>On Monday, September 12, CBS Radio ends the simulcast of sports talk on WXYT-AM/FM and launches Talk Radio 1270 WXYT... The program schedule is: Charlie Langton in AM drive followed by Premiere Networks’ Glenn Beck; Talk Radio Network’s Laura Ingraham; Compass Media Networks’ Todd Schnitt; Genesis Communications Network’s Jason Lewis; and TRN’s Rusty Humphries.

This is good news for Detroit radio.

Congrats to Radio-Info for breaking this. The so called 'buzzboard' was well behind the curve on this one.

I've said for a long time that Beck and Ingraham need a lot in Detroit and it would be a good move for 1270 or a new FM talker. We'll see how the Langton show works out. He's good on Fox 2 and on his Warren cable shows.

In any case this is good news for Talk Radio fans in Detroit.

With Detroit not having an ESPN radio affiliate, I am kind of surprised they didn't make WXYT into something very similar to WJZ-AM.

Don't tell that to Neal Rubin... He says 1270 is flipping to "angry talk" next month:

I wonder what his thoughts were when 1270 carried "Opie & Anthony" for a few months while they were still all-sports? ::)

I'm surprise Neal Boortz doesn't have a place in the new lineup. Same with Clark Howard. I give them credit for having a local show in morning drive.

Not taking away from the announcement (big applause for them adding a local morning show to the lineup), but I could do away with the syndicated shows also on the card. There's too many good talent that can successfully run a talk sow (ie. Mitch Albom, Rob Parker, I even see Huel Perkins doing a three hour talk show, etc.) for them to just have-- from the looks of it-- one locally-produced talk show and then syndication all the time afterwards.
