Talkers New Media Seminar 2012

Talkers says this will be the quickest sellout of the NMS in its 15-year history. Mind you, they've resorted to selling tickets exclusively to folks actively involved in the radio industry this time around.

Nothing like a massive embracing of the status quo, no matter how fatally flawed it is.

It will be my first year in the "Talk Rumble" - I'm pretty excited! 8)

See you in October, Michael!

@Ian: There's nearly a dozen people scheduled for this year's "Rumble"! When I attended the seminar four years ago, there were eight participants...

Take note, Dr. Daliah: two familiar names - Andy Dean and Heidi Harris (former KDWN colleague) - are in the "Rumble" this year...

Did anybody address the 'burnout' on politics? Or one sided radio (snooze)?

I guess with INSANITY as the keynote, I already know the answer.

BUT, with a conference filled with bloviators taliking about the same ole thing, it must have been fun.

All I know by looking in from the outside is that talk radio numbers are stagnant. The rule seems to be, attract a low cume and convert it into TSL.

Is that the recipe for future success? Most of these windbags are OLD and sounding more like great grandpa everyday.

(I'm ready now to take my happy pill)

@RadioWizard: When I attended the Talkers event back in 2008 (which happened to be another election year) Sean Hannity (or "insanity," as you kindly referred to him) was the keynote speaker then, and as you would expect, the keynote speech was pretty much the same theme!

Usually these meetings devote time to non-political radio, a subject for which I usually sit nice and tall. This meeting was shorter so they could only touch upon the FM talk wave briefly. I believe politics will always have a strong place in radio but as our ADHD population demands bulleted information that's entertaining right out of the gate, we'll see a move towards comprehensive talk shows that "hit it all"...a transformation I've had to make over the last few years, and loving it.

And the "bulleted" presentation of your program is quite comprehensive. Keep up the good work, Doc!

I call him Shannity. :)

Wait 'til you see the rumble video. It was quite entertaining and you'll get to see two relatively new-to-the-scene talk show hosts desperately promoting themselves. It's ridiculous.
