Talkers Releases Its 2011 Heavy Hundred List

The top five are all conservative hosts (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Savage, Ingraham), while a few progressives (Hartmann, Schultz, Joe Madison), along with Mark Levin and Dave Ramsey round out the top ten.

Other notables:

Howard Stern - 12th
Don Imus - 26th
Mike & Mike - 49th

Complete list here:

Their criteria for this annual list is never consistent, and they probably like it that way because the point of any list is to get people discussing it or complaining about it. I'm sure Talkers is getting mentions on dozens of shows now.

What do you have to do to get on this list? Besides by an ad in Talkers' Magazine. Get people talking about you? Talking about how your numbers are down. Talking about how your audience is old. Talking about how stations have dropped your show. Talking about how many people you've managed to offend. Those seem to cover the top of Michael Harrison's list.

And a congratulations to Ian (whom I know lurks on this board) and the gang at "Free Talk Live" for making the list! (I think they made it last year, as well?)

And if talking about your Heavy Hundred ranking indeed is one of the variables that keep you atop the list, then it's worked for Howard Stern; remember how he complained about his position on the list last year?

I don't know about the "sending money" part, but Opie and Anthony decided to give the guy a call one year that they didn't make the list. The next year they were #6.

He's also admitted that the list is mainly there to stir up conversation about the industry. I don't see that as a bad thing.

Gee, just like talk radio and Fox News.

Thank you! It's our third year, moving up from 97 to 84 to 79. 8) Thanks, TALKERS!

Movin up with a bullet! Congrats on the accomplishment.

The magazine admits its a subjective list, so one may make of it whatever one pleases. Bev Smith (44) and Quinn & Rose (50) represent my favorite market, Pittsburgh, as did the late Fred Honsberger. I otherwise am not impressed.

How the heck does Kim Komando manage to be #39 but Leo Laporte -- whose show has been syndicated [for at least a few years now!] despite what the list says -- is relegated to the 101-250 list?

Kim is on a ton of stations, I don't have any problem where she is. Leo, on the other hand, also deserves to be in there too. He's the very definition of a multi-media personality. If more radio shows did things like he does, they'd have a lot more success. I'm sure some political talker that no one listens to could have been booted to give Leo a spot.

Kim Komando has basically written the book on building a fan base in the 21st century. Millions of people subscribe to her emails, which also carry advertising. Anyone who does radio (not just talk) could learn a lot from her.

Villanucci #68 they do not mention that he is the only live local show in Albuquerque.
