The Talking House TH II (the black, metal-cased version) is a good, versatile transmitter. It sounds clear and crisp, not "muddy" at all. I don't know the modulation level, but it is loud. Used with the supplied 3 meter wire antenna, it can give a range of 200' - 500' (see these installation drawings at http://www.theradiosource.com/products-infomax-illustrations.htm ).
Information Station Specialists (see the home page for the above page) and Talking House ( www.actradio.com and www.talkinghouse.com ) offer an outdoor Antenna Tuning Unit (ATU) that uses a 2.59 meter (102") fiberglass CB whip antenna and is connected to the transmitter by a 25' or 125' length of RG-6 coaxial cable. It will provide up to 1/4 mile range. If you decide to order an ATU from Talking House, don't tell them you got the transmitter off eBay. (One poster here said that Talking House refused to sell him an ATU after he told them he bought his transmitter off eBay.) -- JasonW
