Tall Greensboro landmark gone!?!?!?

I was going through G'Boro 6 days ago and noticed that the old 98.7 tower was GONE! The 10 bay FM antenna, the tower, everything was gone!
It used to tower some 800 feet over lower Greensboro right off of I-85. We were going on vacation and I was riding on 85 south when I looked towards were it used to stand and it wasn't there. It about freaked me out! But I had heard somewhere that a TV station out of Charlotte had bought the tower. (WCNC I think. maybe?)
Anyone have ANY clue what happened? or when it moved or disassembled?
For a tower and radio freak like myself, it's disapointing to not see the usual sites on your way down the road. :(


And another thing - while heading down 220 south the same day - THERE'S A NEW TOWER OUT AT THE WGHP SITE! and I made us stop to check it out and I got some great shots of it too. I didn't hear anything about FOX 8 building a new tower. the old red and white one is still there, but there's a new stainless steel one next door about 500 yeards away. The new one looks a bit taller too.
Any thoughts or knowledge on what will happen to the old 1255' tower ? From what I could see on the old tower, the DT antenna was moved (I'm assuming its on the new one now) but the analog is still up top. The new tower has an antenna on top, but another mounted below that.
I wish there was a way I could upload a few pics on here. I must say they turned out very well. :)

I can't help you on the Greensboro tower, but the new tower you saw at WGHP is their new digital tower. If you get on the www.avsforum.com and go to the Greensboro board and ask foxeng for information he will tell you all about it.
 
I think the land was sold or something like that, tower has been gone for at least 6 months now...I havent been down meadowview road where the tower was to see if the building was still there or not....I really need to go down 220 though...hehehehe
