Tallahassee's Classic Hits Station.....

I wish it was. Last year, Rock104 in Gainesville, and now this. Heard it today in my work truck. I thought the playlist sounded a bit strange for Gulf, right up to "Heaven" by Bryan Adams. That's how the jock announced it, "Tallahassee's Classic Hits Station,Gulf 104" :(

That must mean 99 Rock in Fort Walton is also on thin ice. They had an almost identical playlist to Gulf 104, and Cumulus also owns them... heck, they even share some DJs.

Gulf 104 is/was an institution. If Cumulus flips 104.1 to a Journey like station and buys one of FSU's translators to keep Gulf 104 alive (think 99x Atlanta)... I better shut up before they get an idea.

Man, this is depressing. Good thing the xanax is kicking in... bed time.

Spin Gulf 104 back a few years and leave it the hell alone!

Yep 901Rocks is right Gulf 104 has flip to classtic hits. I wonder what the people in Tallahassse will feel after 35 years of Tallahassee's Rock Station. Well 99.9 is still Hank-FM I hope 99.9 will make thier playlist better to sounds like a JACK station. 99.9 still plays alot of classtic hits in the middle of 80's and 90's music and today. Clear Channel Radio still keep X-101.5 with Tallahassee's New Rock Station. I dont think X-101.5 is not a new rock station as they keep playing the 90's new rock music alot and few new rock. (doesnt sounds like 97x from Panama City). Gulf 104 still have John Boy and Billy in the morinings.

Well technically 97X is Active rock and X101.5 is Alternative, but old ears like mine find it hard to tell the difference.

It would now be a no-brainer 99.9 to flip to AOR and for 97.3 to go Classic Rock... X101.5 is also very vulnerable right now to fill in Gulf 104's AOR void, hopefully CC wouldn't tweak X101.5 any further than Modern rock leaning AAA format, which would be an improvement for the oldsters but would open up the gates for someone else to come in with Active Rock. Maybe X101.5 to Active rock and 99.9 to AAA? That would be fitting since neither signal makes it over Curry Hill.

Hell, I don't know much, but someone else is going to take advantage of Gulf 104's mistake. Don't trust anybody anymore. I also expect Cumulus will be making changes in many other markets, but I only follow Panama City and Fort Walton (yeah, I think they'll change the format of at least one FWB station, and they own the top 5 rated stations in FWB... it would obviously be a mistake to fix something that ain't broke in FWB.

A flip to classic hits is actually a return to Gulf 104's roots considering WGLF was a Top 40 station before becoming AOR. I haven't listened to the new classic hits Gulf 104; however, I'm sure it has similarities to its original 1970s Top 40 sound.

Listren Live as well....

I was listren to it alittle bit today on the way home they still play classtic rock and classtic hits together in the mix but still its Gulf 104 Tallahassee's Classtic Hits Station.

We see if X-101.5 or 97.3 will go to AOR rock. I remeber 97.3 Albany's Clear Channel used to be a rock station before.

I really wish it was a lie, but they have changed the imaging and even the logo. Seems WGLF has leaned classic for at least the last year or so. Before that they were more AOR with classic sprinkled in and did fairly well in the Nielsen ratings. Before the flip it was the same old routine every day and the same music over and over....my guess is they hired a 50 - 60 year old PD only likes CCR and Crosby Stills and Nash, which bottomed out the ratings. It's either the programming choice or that the corporate office (Cumulus) is trying to corner the market in Tallahassee on female listeners that's responsible for the flip. I have noticed a few angry posts from listeners on their Facebook page, time will tell if this format will work. It's a shame that another heritage rocker bites the dust.

Your right Rockisnotdead u said it on the GULF 104 facebook page there are some listnser are not happy with the music on GULF 104 flip to classtic hits.

I should have known this was coming, I found it odd that Sunday night the jock was playing a lot of music I haven't heard on Gulf 104 in well over a year. Sounded like she was having fun too. I personally will not listen to that station anymore, hopefully someone in Tallahassee will pick up the slack that Gulf will leave behind. It'd be nice to have a real rocker in this town.

It's offical Gulf 104 is now classtic hits from the RadioInsight Breakin News Post.
•Cumulus Rock "Gulf 104" WGLF Tallahassee, FL has shifted to Classic Hits but keeps the previous branding.

Look up X-101.5 and 97.3 and 99.9 who will be the next AOR new home for Tallahassee? hhhmmmmm

I will said X-101.5 will be the new AOR home for clear channel.

99.9 Hank-FM well ah okay like a JACK-FM radio

97.3 (they used to be a rock station before they flip it to Gen-X Radio) Albany Ga.

If Gulf 104 in Tallahassee has HD Radio they will move the AOR to HD-2.

Tallahassee may not get another AOR... ever. What about Clear Channel stepping up with 97.3 going straight up Classic Rock and shifting X101.5 toward a TK101/97X like Active Rock format with classic alternative rock weekends. If X101.5 winds up tweaking their format because of Gulf 104's move, maybe V89 could also tighten up and try to sound a little more like a commercial Alternative Rock station during prime listening hours.

NOOOOO! RIP "Tallahassee's best rock". Classic hits can be an ok format, i'm listening to one right now from birmingham, but hearing what 971 RQQ in nashville sounds like....UUUUGH.

Well the negative posts are gone now, guess this PD doesn't like to be called out for his lack of talent.

We seem to be losing our heritage, I bet 99 rock won't be long to the flip here. If they DO flip, hopefully - WFTW-FM. They seem to be targeting a female audience. I wouldn't be too surprised when people get sick of radio and start looking for other alternatives.

I wonder what their playlist is now, 75 songs vs 50 songs??

Assuming one doesn't enjoy listening to country music... what other Panhandle radio stations are live and local besides WKSM 99 Rock (at least daytimes, I can accept automation when I sleep)? Anyone in PCB, Tally, or Pensacola? What about Jax and Gainesville? Any live/local DJs on music stations without a twang?
