Tampa Bay questions

I'm asking these questions because I'm seriously considering trying to rent a Sirius or XM equipped car when I'm in Tampa starting next Thursday.

First, how soon before WSJT flips from smooth jazz to an Amp/Now-type Top 40 station to take on WFLZ (which, given its Clear Channel ownership, I assume to be a carbon copy of Kiss 108 back home in Boston)?

Next, I'll be using the Boston formula to make assumptions about a lot of stations, specifically those owned by Cox Radio.

Given that WSUN is listed as alt-rock like WBCN, I'll assume that it's non-stop Led Zep, AC/DC, Guns'N'Roses, Aerosmith, Hendrix, U2, the Who, Ozzy, etc.

Given that WPOI is listed under the classic rock umbrella by the trades (a la the 70s stations a decade earlier), I'll likewise assume that it's all-rock-all-the-time, with the emphasis on U2, AC/DC, G'N'R, Aero, Ozzy, etc.

Next, what is the difference between classic rockers WHPT and WXGL? I'm assuming that both play the non-stop nonsense from Led Zep, AC/DC, U2, G'N'R, Hendrix, Who, Aero, Eagles, Mac, Floyd and others.

Finally, is there a difference between CBS' classic rocker WRBQ and the Cox classic rockers? Again using Boston classic rockers' WZLX and WROR as guidelines, I'm assuming more of the same crap from Led Zep and friends. Can you tell that I'm tired of all-rock-all-the-time, and I don't enjoy contemporary rock (Kiss 108 back home) or gangsta rap (Jam'n 94-5).

Just my $.02, everyone! ;)

There actually are some differences in music.

1) WPOI 101.5 focuses on a small playlist from mostly the 80's . They play the music that was big on CHR stations from that era. Nothing too hard and no GNR, but think Journey and Prince.

2) WXGL 107.3 focuses on primarily Classic Hits form the Seventies. Lots of Eagles, Creedence, Rod Stewart. It does not play really hard stuff.

3) WRBQ 104.7 has recently adjusted it's format to be almost all TOP 40 music from the Sixties. They play a lot of Motown and have Tom Kent to boot.

4) Being female , my radio blocks WHPT and WSUN, so I don't know what they play, but WHPT is very personality intensive which is odd for COX

5) WDUV at 105.5 ( COX too) runs jockless except for AM drive and plays soft AC from the time when AC meant ballads from Kenny and Dolly
You just don't find this everywhere.

6) WWRM at 94.9 is your standard issue modern AC with Delilah

7) WMTX at 100.7 is HOT AC with 8 hours of Tesh.

Have fun in Tampa

I forgot

WXTB at 97.9 may be what you are describing, but I don't listen so can't be sure.

There is an Urban at 95.7, a churban at 98.7, and all Scott Shannon all the time at 106.3

WUSF at 89.7 plays classical and jazz

WMNF at 88.5 is liberal community radio and seems to play anything.

The only band you listed for WSUN (97X) they actually do play is U2. They are an Alt. Rock station that plays (gasp) mainly Alt/New Rock (Weezer, Foo Fighters, Offspring, Sublime, Staind, NIN, Radiohead).

No G'n'R, Ozzy etc....you'll find them down the dial at sister station WHPT The Bone, or at Clear Channel Active Rocker WXTB.
