The FCC files a lawsuit against CBS Radio over Tampa broadcast tower radiation
After five years of back-and-forth over how much radiation was being emitted from towers in downtown Tampa, the FCC is suing WQYK-FM (99.5) and parent company CBS Radio, demanding $100,000 in fines, plus interest. The Tampa Business Journal reports the issue dates to 2004, when an FCC inspection determined there wasn’t adequate notification to visitors that they were being exposed to more than the maximum amount of RF. CBS blames Entravision Holdings, the parent of WVEA-TV, which also broadcasts from the same tower area, and says its own radiation overexposure was minimal. A judge rejected that argument, and that will send both parties to court.
Is the roof of the building where WQYK broadcasts from open to the public?
100000 watts on FM + millions of watts on UHF is a ton of radiation
