Is it possible that Spanish WYUU (listed as Hot AC) is getting better ratings than any of the other CBS properties? I realize that this is the general consumption 12+ numbers that don't mean anything to ad buyers, but still...
Does this say something about ratings methodologies?
Let be real, it shouldn't be hard to take out The Eagle. The only time I ever hear the Eagle anymore is when I'm in a diner, or a local restaurant. Without fail I will hear the same 10 songs every time... seriously if I don't hear Super Tramp's Goodbye Stranger within 15 minutes of going into an establishment, I know for certain they're not playing the Eagle.
As much as I loathe CC's squandering of these translators, hopefully this will encourage the Eagle to play something... anything different from what they've been doing since they were "Coast!"
Yogi Berra reportedly once said about a restaurant "No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded." The Eagle is tied for #3 in the ratings. People might claim they hate the repetition on most radio stations. Then they listen to radio stations that keep repeating the songs they like.
It seems the station that repeats Goodbye Stranger over and over has the most male listeners in Tampa, since stations #1, the Dove, and #2 Magic, both lean female. The Eagle is tied with WFLZ, which also leans female.
I don't have XM or HD. I've been thinking about getting an HD radio, but XM just doesn't interest me. It is cool that you can swear on there though. I hear the FCC is considering lifting the ban on indecency and nudity for terrestrial broadcasts. In my opinion this is long overdue. Can you imagine the effect this could have on overall listenership? I bet a lot of people would turn their radios back on just to hear their local DJ drop legal F bombs, or to hear their favorite music uncensored...
Personally, I find just being able to see the ratings of the subscribing stations a bit ridiculous. I understand why Arbitron does it, but it is not an accurate picture of the ratings in a given market.

Hopefully lifting the ban on indecency and profanity will never happen. Ever been to a "comedy club" where the so-called funny men and women use the "F" word in every sentence? After a while, it isn't funny or shocking any longer. After a while it just blends in. The envelope keeps being pushed and once we hit a new plateau the bar is raised (or lowered as the case may be). The true pros from a bygone time could do double entendre and make you feel as if they just said something really bad. Show prep and talent. Doesn't take ANY professionalism to spout out street language to compensate for having no talent. Let's not lower our standards any more than they already are.

I think way more people would turn it off because we don't want to hear it, and we don't want our kids to hear it.
Stern drew lots of people to Sirius early because people thought the same thing. But when there were no rules, all he could do was basically turn the show into flat-out porn some days.
It takes more to be entertaining within boundaries, as Frank said.
